Your Temple is a gift from God!
This morning, I could hear the Holy Spirit saying to take heed of how we handle the things of God; especially our own vessels, as the people of God.
David tried to bring up the Ark of the Covenant but he forgot to consult God, before doing so. They brought it up in a cart out of the house of Abindab. And, as they begin to be merry one of the men and was dancing and was so happy that he stumbled and placed his hands of the Ark; Uz-za. Yes, it was an accident, but God made him out of an example that ignorance was NO excuse for not obeying God’s commandments.
You see, sin is still sin in the eyes of God.
(For example the scriptures say, “But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; the master of that slave will come ON A DAY WHEN HE DOES NOT EXPECT HIM AND AT AN HOUR HE DOES NOT KNOW, AND WILL CUT HIM IN PIECES, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. And that slave WHO KNEW his master’s will and DID NOT get ready or act in accord with his will, WILL RECEIVE MANY lashes. but the one who DID NOT KNOW IT, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, WILL RECEIVE BUT FEW.”) (Luke 12:45-47).
You see, Uz-za touched the ark with his hands, but he still had to pay the price for his ignorance in touching it; as a result he died. The Lord did this because he knew that David would seek and consult him on how to bring the Ark of the Covenant up into his own house. Which he did.
David was so displeased with what had happened that he began asking God, “How can I bring the ark home to me?” He was so afraid of God after what had happened to Uz-za that the Ark stayed in the house of O-bed-e-dom for three months and while it was there he was blessed beyond measure; as well as ALL THAT HE HAD! (1 Chronicles 13:11-14).
David realized that he still had to keep the covenant agreement that came with possessing the Ark in order to possess it and to keep it in his possession. God had some stipulations attached to whoever would possess it. For, it was sacred, and it was a place of atonement and the sprinkling of the blood for sin. The mercy seat was a symbol for God’s throne, on which he sat and ruled Israel. For, God said, “there, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites,” (Exodus 25:22, NIV).
God is speaking this morning, and He is warning the people of God that daily repentance is still necessary; even if we are no longer under the law.
David recognized his failure and he did not allow his mistakes to stop him in seeking God for forgiveness. He was a wise man, a humble man, and he tried to correct the mistake that he had made in trying to bring the Ark of the Covenant into his home. He did not try to justify his sins; (lay the blame on others, but he owned them; instead) as some would have done. But, instead he made atonement for them. What a great leader.
God wants us to know that He does NOT expect us to be perfect, because only Christ himself never missed the mark, but when we do sin to confess and to forsake them; instead. God wants us to know that we are never to take things into our own hands, but he said in ALL OF OUR WAYS TO ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND HE WILL DIRECT OUR PATH. WHICH IS WHAT DAVID SHOULD HAVE DONE. TRUST GOD FOR HE PROMISED TO NEVER LEAVE US NOR TO FORSAKE US! (Hebrew 13:5-6).
David got the victory! And the LORD suffered him to bring the Ark of the Covenant up to his tent. Where he offered sacrifices and peace offerings unto the Lord: where he blessed the people of God. David begin to sing and to shout and to glorify God for his victory! (1 Chronicles 16).
The Lord wants his people to know that when we seek him and his guidance we don’t have to worry about being defeated. For, He said to David, “When they went from one nation to another, And from one kingdom to another people, He permitted no man to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm!” (1 Chronicles 16:20-22).
However; when we go on our own, we will have to suffer the consequences of our sins. The LORD is speaking and he is warning the body of Christ that ignorance is NO excuse for not living Holy, and all that do not consult with him regarding salvation will suffer the consequences of damnation.
God is no respecter of persons. This goes from the pulpit to the back of the door. God rejected David in bringing up the Ark of the Covenant; until he was prepared for it, and he had consulted with him. As a result, God allowed it to go into the house of O-bed-e-dom; instead. And O-bed-e-dom was blessed in all his house; all because of error and ignorance.
Preparation is everything when it comes to doing a work and an assignment for the Lord.
God said, “And you shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, that the ark may be carried by them. The poles shall be in the rings of the ark; they shall NOT be taken from it, (Exodus 25: 10-22).
Although, we are no longer living in the Old Testament. The Lord is still saying that our temples are holy unto the Lord and we are to take care in how we use them when it comes to offering up our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord. And not only are our physical temples holy; but the physical temple; the church of God. And we are to be careful in how we handle the things of God.
They are dedicated to the LORD for His good use; and NEVER OUR OWN. GOD IS A HOLY GOD AND ALL THAT COME TO HIM ARE EXPECTED TO USE THE THINGS OF GOD FOR HIS PLANS AND HIS PURPOSE AND NOT OUR OWN!
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise, (1 Corinthians 3:16-18).
