You Have To FIGHT To Get What GOD Has Promised You!
You Have To FIGHT To Get What GOD Has Promised You!
It is one of the amazing mysteries of GOD and His Ways: He has promised you, and says He has given you something; yet you must contend for it to obtain it.
You must “wage the good warfare” “as a good soldier of JESUS CHRIST.” (1 Timothy 1:18; 2 Timothy 2:3). This you do by believing, praying and obeying as led by THE HOLY SPIRIT.
“This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having Faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning The Faith have suffered shipwreck,” 1 Timothy 1:18-19.
What GOD has said to you should not be mounted like a mantle piece display or a wall hanging. It must be PRAYED fervently into manifestation.
GOD told Abraham that he and his descendants will inherit The Promised Land:
“Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their GOD.” Genesis 17:8.
He said to him earlier:
“Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.” Genesis 15:13-14.
But the four hundred years had elapsed, with the children of Israel now in bondage in Egypt, not The Promised Land as GOD Himself had prophesied to Abraham. It was now 430 years!
Thirty years behind schedule, “the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to GOD because of the bondage. So GOD heard their groaning, and GOD remembered His Covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And GOD looked upon the children of Israel, and GOD acknowledged them.” (Exodus 2:23-25).
Enter Moses; the man GOD had been training for eighty years to deliver His people.
While a shepherd at Horeb, The Mountain of GOD, THE LORD said to him:
“I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:7-10.
Isn’t it amazing how GOD chooses the rejected to fulfill His Purpose?
“This Moses whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one GOD sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of The Angel Who appeared to him in the bush. He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.” Acts 7:35-36.
It was a mighty deliverance which foreshadowed THE CROSS OF JESUS, The Good Shepherd:
“Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years — on that very same day — it came to pass that all the armies of THE LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night of solemn observance to THE LORD for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of THE LORD, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.” Exodus 12:40-42.
Yet after all that: The Promise and Covenant to Abraham by GOD, His mighty deliverance of the children of Israel by the hand of Moses, they had to still FIGHT relentlessly repeatedly under Moses and Joshua before they eventually possessed The Promised Land!
If GOD promised you anything, you have to FIGHT for it in spiritual warfare.
David was repeatedly anointed king of Israel, but he had to FIGHT repeatedly before he ascended the throne, subsequently ruled and reigned over all Israel. (See 1 Samuel 16 and 2 Samuel 2:1–5:5).
“For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” 1 Corinthians 16:9.
You have to fight like David, led by THE HOLY SPIRIT to ascend your throne, yes, to rule and reign. To possess your possession.
David easily succeeded whenever he inquired of THE LORD what to do when, where and how.
We must likewise. Always inquire of THE LORD to know and do His Will in everything.
And contend to lay hold of His Promise.
THE HOLY SPIRIT was promised by THE LORD JESUS, but the disciples had to expectantly tarry and pray in Jerusalem for ten days before THE SPIRIT was poured out on them when The Day of Pentecost had fully come.
When promised something by GOD, you have to go, enduring and contending in The Power of THE HOLY SPIRIT to obtain it.
There was severe famine in the land. And GOD told Elijah to go to a widow he had told to provide for him:
“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 1 Kings 17:9.
You would have thought that upon his arrival, the widow would be politely smiling, beaming with warmth and honour at the sight of the man of GOD, saying: “Ah, Prophet Elijah! We’ve been expecting you. Please come in and make yourself comfortable. I have prepared a table for you…” No?
Alas! Elijah had to contend for the provision GOD said he had made for him!
‘So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” So she said, “As THE LORD your GOD lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.” And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says THE LORD GOD of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day THE LORD sends rain on the earth.’ ” So she went away and did according to The Word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to THE WORD OF THE LORD Which He spoke by Elijah.” 1 Kings 17:10-16.
See right there? Elijah waged the good warfare with The Word THE LORD had given him, just as Paul told Timothy to do, and we must do, (1 Timothy 1:18).
What has GOD said to you? FIGHT to get it. Believe, pray and obey as led by THE HOLY SPIRIT.
“THE LORD bless you and keep you; THE LORD make His Face shine upon you, And be Gracious to you; THE LORD lift up His Countenance upon you, And give you Peace.” Numbers 6:24-26.
Amen.
“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.
“Farewell” Acts 15:29.
~ Jacob Addison Awagah
Jacob, an apostle of JESUS CHRIST by The Will of GOD, according to The Promise of Life Which is in CHRIST JESUS, (2 Timothy 1:1).
Like John, I like to put my head to The Heart of JESUS so as to know and do His Will always. What’s in His Heart is what matters now and FOREVER. His Heart’s Desire is my only desire. My will is to do His Will.
As John was, I am the disciple whom JESUS loves. And like Paul, I am “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 3:1) for His Purpose forever: to obey Him always.
NB. Surely, the disciple whom JESUS loves and “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS”, like ALL The Promises of GOD, are available to every believer to obtain, just as John and Paul did.
“And having been perfected, He [JESUS] became The Author of Eternal Salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9.
Sir, this is a timely prophetic words for Christians all over the word especially in America with the recent Court ruling & many more to come. Many Christians forget the fact that God has a part to play in every situation & we have our own parts to play too. God never fail in making & fulfilling his promises but human beings most times fail to eagerly pray & fight to get the promises of God. May God give us the Grace to earnestly contend for God’s promises upon our lives & Nations in Jesus name Amen. Thanks
