Without a Vision the People Perish
“Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he,” Proverbs 29:18.
Many of us know this verse quite well, and we often quote it. But not just any vision will do to keep the people from perishing. There are perhaps many different ideas and plans that some have that would lead a nation or land, forward in its progress. And yet, are their agendas and plans aligned with God’s?
This statement was true when it was written down at the time of Solomon, and it is as true now as it ever could be. For without a sound, vivid picture, and design, for one’s future, then we are left as a leaf that would be blown about by the wind. Without a rudder, a ship is left without a direction, and it never would come back to its harbor.
Soon, we have the opportunity to decide who has the best vision for this nation. But I truly wonder if either one of our choices will align with a vision for the people, and will be one that would keep us from perishing.
People can perish in more ways than just one. One doesn’t need to physically die or go away, in order to perish. One can perish emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually.
We hear about our freedoms that we are all entitled to. Each of us is entitled to live in a land safely, where we can earn a living from the sweat of our brow, and provide a home for our families. But as we may well know, some of these freedoms are being eroded away every day.
The vision should not be about making a nation great again, but of rekindling a reverence for God. It should be about showing compassion and mercy to the hurting and the down trodden.
God’s plan is not that some would be given preferential treatment, but that all would come to know Him, whether rich or poor, no matter what the color of their skin, or background is.
And yet we should well know that there is a huge disparity economically, unlike perhaps at any time in history. And I believe, unfortunately, that the divisions that exist among many have widened more than they have ever been, and this will continue.
What I believe that many, and probably most, fail to truly understand, is that God is in the business of bringing this nation to its knees, and no matter how great our plan or vision is, it will quickly dissolve when judgment falls.
“The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD,” Proverbs 16:1.
Whatever vision does come after this fall, we will not see an end to bigotry or division. The rich will get richer, and the poor will get poorer. This is not meant to be a gloomy or negative forecast, but only that we are on God’s prophetic time table. And this pathway that we are on, is leading us to the ultimate fall of our nation.
But, we must know that God sets men and women in office by His hand. He casts some down, and raises up others. And…. even more importantly, we must remember that His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts.
Having said that, then when things seem to be falling apart at the seams, perhaps that is part of His plan. For truly then when everything is crumbling around us, we can reach out to Him for His help.
By saying that we would make America great again, can imply that we can do it by ourselves, without the help of God.
So, what should the vision be for a land, or a people?
Selah,

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the LORD is a special way in 1975 and has prophesied regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
