With So Much Confusion, How Can We Know the Truth?
At the present time there is no lack of confusing things that are going on in the world and this includes the Christian world. There seems to be no end of information that is available, as we are being bombarded by all kinds of media influences from so many different sources including the Internet, TV, radio, books, movies and mobile devices. Knowledge is a good thing if it comes from a source of truth, but today, much of what we are receiving is misinformation that is based on individual opinions, lies from immoral people and even “out and out” Satanic messages and influences. No wonder so many people are so confused.
The Internet is filled with ungodly confusing information that is put forth by different kinds of people who fall into various categories. Some are:
- Well-meaning people that are deceived
- Prideful people that want to be heard
- False prophets spreading deception
- Satanists spreading occultism
Other people are truly called by God to minister on the Internet and have been commissioned to bring a true message from God to the world. We received that call years ago when the Lord told us to bring His light to a dark place. Back in 1994 the Internet was mostly used by pornographers. That has now changed, as God’s people have stepped up and used the Internet to minister to others. Read the Miller’s testimony.
We must ask God to bring us the messages we need to hear and ask Him to lead us into all truth. However, we must be very careful on the Internet, as the devil is using it to deceive people all over the world. Parents, you must supervise your children’s mobile Internet devices so you do not lose them to the enemy. If we read something that brings confusion to our minds, wisdom would dictate that we not go there, nor allow our children access either. The Internet cannot sin; however, people that use it do and there is much evil in the world right now.
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things,” 2 Timothy 2:7.
“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints,” 1 Corinthians 14:33.
God’s Word is Truth (Without It, We Perish)
The Bible talks about a time such as this, and also furnishes us true knowledge so that we can overcome the things that are bringing confusion in our lives. The Word of God is really the only source of truth, so if we want the truth, we must seek Jesus, Who is truth, and study the Bible which holds God’s written truths.
Knowledge comes from two sources. Intellectual information gained by the mind or revelation given by the Holy Spirit. There is a lot of intellectual knowledge that is good to know and we certainly can partake of it. For instance, learning how to read.
However, there is also a lot of soulish knowledge that is harming us and our children. How do we determine what is good and what is evil? We must know what the Bible has to say about a subject and not just accept some man’s opinion or doctrine. That is why it is so important to study the Word of God. The Bible says that the results of a lack of God’s knowledge can bring destruction to our lives and the reason is that we do not know God’s Word in its fullest.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee…,” Hosea 4:6a.
The Root of Confusion
Confusion comes from the devil. The Bible gives us a description of devilish wisdom and tells us this kind of wisdom does not come from God.
“Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace,” James 3:13-18.
From this Scripture we can know that anything that causes confusion, strife, or envy and other evil works is of the devil. Confusion arises either because we have a truth and the devil is trying to rob us of it, or, we are believing a lie and the Holy Spirit is trying to show us His truth about the matter. In order to know which one it is, we must first submit to the Lord and ask Him to show us if we have been deceived and be willing to admit we have embraced a lie and renounce it. Or, if the devil is trying to rob or steal a truth from us, then we must ask the Lord to confirm to us what we have embraced is the truth and help us to hold onto it. We must take the position that whatever God reveals we will walk in that position and not hold on to something that is a lie because we would be embarrassed to admit it. We simply need to submit to God, and resist the devil and he will flee with his confusion, as the Lord will lead us into all truth when we seek Him with all of our heart.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you,” James 4:7.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13.
The Earth Will be Covered with the Knowledge of God
There is a day coming when the whole world shall have the knowledge of God’s Word according to the prophetic word below from the Bible. This knowledge will be spread by the servants of God before the coming of the Lord.
“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea,” Habakkuk 2:14.
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come,” Matthew 24:14.
If any of us are to receive truth, we must seek God, who is truth, with our whole hearts. We must seek Jesus first, then the knowledge of His Word will be revealed to us. I want to emphasize the first thing we must do to receive truth is we must become as “a little child” in our approach to learning God’s Word (Matthew 18:1-4; Jeremiah 29:13).
We need to come humbly before God, asking Him to remove any “know-it-all” attitudes, in order to be teachable. By laying down everything we thought we knew, we give God a chance to correct things we have believed that were wrong. We may have received some things from ministers whom we admired and thought they were ministering the truth in all areas and yet they were deceived in certain areas and we received that deception from them. God is bringing his light to all false doctrines and deceptions at this hour to all who are seeking Him with their whole hearts and there may be things we need to acknowledge and renounce, because they are blocking our promises. If we ask God about these things, He will hear us and free us. Then we can begin to live the overcoming lives that God intended for His children to experience.
The purpose of God’s knowledge is so we can glorify God, become like Jesus, be an overcomer and, in turn, teach others and thus fulfill the Great Commission.
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature,” Mark 16:15.
Additional Study
If you desire additional study on the how to avoid deception in the End Times, the first book in the Overcoming Life Series, entitled “Prove All Things” discusses this topic and others such as discerning the Spirit of truth versus the spirit of error. The book also deals with how to judge without being judgmental.
