Why Did the Holy Spirit Come?
- So we may have an inner-walk in the Spirit with our Father.
- So we may grow and be renewed in our lives as we come to know Him more intimately and as we are changed by Him and by what we come to know and see.
- So He may be expressed through us in this world.
Today, a poor, almost bankrupt knowledge of God, founded upon the shallow human mindsets of modern day Bible scholars and their wrangled concepts of Who God really is and what His ways are like, has sold millions around the Christian world out to theory and theology that carries the belief that the way to know God is the way He was known by His children in the Old Covenant.
They profess to be New Covenant believers, but they know God only in seeking to see signs, wonders and miracles.
They desire to see the miracles in order to see Him. They seek outward signs, such as “portals”, “angel orbs”, physical experiences etc; and their entire walk with God is a chase after these things.
They believe where these things are, God is present and The Holy Spirit is tangible.
Though it may be true in some cases where the authentic Presence of God is at work, that we see and encounter authentic outer manifestations of The Holy Spirit, it was never what the Father intended for us to build our relationship with Him upon.
Shallow doctrine has taught us that the Holy Spirit came to give us “power”, and since we are taught that way, all we seek is to see and to have more power.
Like those who followed Moses, we follow so called modern day “prophets” to see what next great sign may be that will perform.
- We were never taught that the Holy Spirit came to teach us in our inner-man,
- To lead us in our inner-man,
- To bring Revelation in our inner-man,
- To grow us from Glory to Glory in our daily experience of the expressions of the Father in us,
- To lead us into a deeper and more mature understanding of Him and His ways,
- To unveil His secrets within us.
These are the things the apostles amplify and lay value to. The last thing they seek to focus people on are the signs, wonders and miracles.
In fact those things only happened when there was a great need for them. Not as a means of “showcasing the Supernatural”.
All of the above Paul emphasises —
Shallow teaching though, has chosen to skip over the meat of his message, to suckle on the teat of seeing the extraordinary and experiencing the next “outpouring” as a means of finding a deep encounter with God.
Sadly today, we find many who seek and participate in seeking after signs, wonders and miracles, and those who perform them, to be spiritual infants and sometimes even spiritual delinquents.
They stand ankle deep in a River where they are happy to play, without recognising “the Man with the measuring stick in His hand”, beckoning them to come deeper!
It is time for true preaching and teaching to call His church out of a place of foolishly believing that they have experienced His best! To begin to follow Him in leading us into the next thousand cubits measured down for this generation to come to know.
Until we are able to reach the depths in Him where we can swim — overwhelmed by the Waters of His Life and truly may lose ourselves in Him and be clothed upon by Him.
Let us seek the Holy Spirit where He is to be found — Deep inside of us and let us build our walk with Him Who dwells in us.
Let us yield to and embrace the Spirit of the Father in us and allow Him to Love and to change us as we journey with Him!
