Who’s Who in the Courts of Heaven
First, you may be wondering, “What exactly are the Courts of Heaven?”
There is a lot of interest in this topic these days, but not a lot of understanding yet. Throughout the Bible, we see God interacting similarly to the legal system on Earth.
“Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence,” Isaiah 43:26 NIV.
The Courts of Heaven are best described as a place of prayer and petition where we obtain justice from the LORD.
We can pray more effectively once we understand some of the basic principles and protocols of the Courts of Heaven. You deserve justice from the Lord because the attacks of the enemy have been so great.
Who’s who in the Courts
Throughout the entire Bible, we see a pattern similar to a court of law.
Many Greek and Hebrew words for God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will confirm the roles of the lawgiver, advocate, intercessor and witness.
There are many verses in the Bible about this — and I encourage you to search them out.
I’ve provided a few verses below to illustrate the “roles” of “who does what” in the Courts of Heaven:
- We are Petitioners: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV.
- God is our Judge (but not a judge as you might think; remember God is also a loving Father and is not out to judge you!): For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us. Isaiah 33:22 NIV.
- Jesus is our Mediator (attorney): For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5 NIV.
- Holy Spirit is our Witness: The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:16 NIV.
- Satan is our Prosecutor: For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Revelation 12:10b NIV.
You’re already interacting
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need,” Hebrews 4:16 NIV.
When you pray, you are already interacting in the Courts of Heaven at some level, but you may not have realized it.
We are most familiar with intercession and spiritual warfare prayers. God is now releasing deeper understanding and revelation on this topic because the love of many has grown cold, which increases injustices.
The Courts of Heaven are even more important now as the enemy is over-attacking us, and we need justice.
New understanding
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ,” 1 Corinthians 3:10–11 NIV.
Jesus opened the minds of His disciples and they received greater revelation of how He was fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies (Luke 24:45).
We are no longer under the Law of Moses in the Old Testament. We now have the law of the Spirit of God in the New Testament (Romans 8:2).
We have the finished work of what Jesus did for us on the Cross, which gives us access to all we need.
But if you are not seeing the fullness of God’s promises — which include good health, financial blessings and answered prayers — then you might need to access the Courts of Heaven to change things.
I will be sharing much more on the Courts of Heaven — including how to open a case for yourself or someone else — in my upcoming online workshop Understanding the Courts of Heaven – Part 2.
Blessings,
