When Life Feels Like Crushing & Crushing Wave on Wave
Major life changes or multiple upsetting events that seem to “tow us under” can cause us to rethink our lives on a big scale — whether it be a new job, a marriage, a divorce, a new baby or a mid-life crisis.
Severe illness, addiction, or recovery will force huge changes in our lives. So can things like retirement, moving, or the death of a loved one.
In our wilderness, we will be tempted to be “something or someone” other than who God has created us to be.
We will be tempted to forget that we are beloved and shrink back and hide, or… drive full steam ahead into anything exciting that helps us feel “alive”. And yet, when we do forget, the grace of God still reaches out and helps us.
If I am The LORD’s then The LORD is mine.
If Christ owns me, I own Him.
However, there are times when our identity, our sense of who we are, can be in distress at times.
When we give our lives/our wills, over into the care of God we are adopted as His daughters and sons.
And whether we have heard it or not, God is speaking to us, saying, “You are My beloved Child, and with you I AM well pleased,” (Mark 1:11). “But to all who receive Him, who believe in His Name, He gives the right to become children of God,” (John 1:12).
This is who you are — and as Christians, this is our most important identity card.
The voice of God — the voice that thunders on mighty waters, the voice that breaks the cedar trees, the voice that splits flames of fire — is the same voice which reaches down to us and says tenderly, “You are my beloved; I have called you by name; you are precious in my sight and honored, and I love you.”
Listen for HIS voice.
Let that be your identity.
Listen for the voice speaking to you, and respond.
Not with reasons and demands as to why God must calm your storms or repair broken hearts.
No.
Listen to His voice… until yours is quieted and finished bargaining.
He knows what He is doing…
He is at work inside of you. Let Him create in you a clean and New Perspective, and a new Heart.
“Create in me a new, clean heart, O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires,” Psalm 51:10.
