When Jesus Ascended On High
Today (21 May) marks the Day our LORD Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven.
As He said, “Nevertheless I tell you The Truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, The Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you,” (John 16:7).
Oh, THANK God He did! Why? He did two most important things for us when He ascended on High.
“When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men,” Ephesians 4:8.
The LORD Jesus Christ, when He ascended on High, “Having disarmed principalities and powers [in hell], He made a public spectacle of them [in a homecoming victory celebration/ procession], triumphing over them in [The Cross],” (Colossians 2:15).
The understanding here, as I also understood from others over the years, is like “a homecoming victory celebration of a Roman general” (New Spirit Filled Life Bible), in jubilant military procession, displaying his conquest in war: the captives and other spoil of war.
As He did to Paul in Ephesians 4, The Holy Spirit previously revealed the above to David and the sons of Korah respectively:
“You have ascended on high, you have led captivity captive; you have received gifts among men, even from the rebellious, that the Lord God might dwell there……. They have seen Your procession, O God, the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.” Psalms 68:18, 24.
“God has gone up with a shout, The LORD with the sound of a trumpet.” Psalms 47:5.
Jesus Christ The Captain of our Salvation, Jesus Christ The LORD of hosts, led Satan and his evil hordes captive in a Heavenly military homecoming victory celebration/procession when He ascended on High.
This truth we must always proclaim to the principalities and powers! (Ephesians 3:10).
Then we must ask for the gifts He gave us.
The promises of God must be asked for. He gave man Eternal Life, but only those who ask to receive It will have It.
The LORD Jesus, when He ascended on High, gave gifts to men: The Gifts of The Holy Spirit, (1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Romans 12:3-7).
In our Pentecost Prayer and Fasting, let us ask FERVENTLY for The Gifts of The Holy Spirit. Let us ask for The Holy Spirit.
As written, “Ask The LORD for rain [The Holy Spirit] in the time of the latter rain [the end times]. The LORD will make flashing clouds [“lightning flashes”; demonstrations of His POWER]; He will give them showers of rain [pour out The Holy Spirit on us], grass in the field for everyone [flourishing, blossoming for everyone who asks].” (Zechariah 10:1).
As I wrote previously, “Surely seek The Holy Spirit.”
Let us pray for, “The Power and Coming of our LORD Jesus Christ”, and to be “eyewitnesses of His Majesty,” (2 Peter 1:16).
As He promised us just before He ascended to Heaven, we “shall be baptised with The Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5).
