What Type of World Are We Leaving for Our Children?
I saw a phrase today that said, “Dear children, it’s not supposed to be this way.”
It made me think about that for a while. But you see, the world in which we now live in at this time, has thrown us some real curve balls.
I would say for certainty that those growing up in this world over the last twenty-five years or so, have seen dramatic changes that most of us haven’t seen before in any of our lives.
We’re still living in a worldwide epidemic, and most of us are perhaps finally beginning to live with it, even though it is not “normal.”
Now, our world is rocked to the core with the ongoing war in Ukraine, that may well at some point in time, become a World War.
America has seen mass shootings in more and more schools than at any time in history, period.
When I was growing up in the 60’s , the idea of a gunman entering a school and shooting and killing innocent children, was not a reality. In fact, the mere notion of it, would have been reserved for a Twilight Zone episode.
And yet the kids today have not only seen this type of bloodshed just in their schools, the violence has spread to churches, movie theaters, and other outdoor venues and clubs.
We have always had violence, but the cancer has spread and has metastasized to almost every avenue of society.
Certainly it is true that our parents and grandparents lived through very arduous times as well. Those that lived and managed to survive through the great depression of the thirties knew what it meant to live in poverty and depletion.
Those that fought in all of the wars, particularly World War II, know much about human suffering and grief.
And yet, I believe, that our world now is a place where these issues and conflicts, have intensified beyond anything that our forefathers knew or experienced.
Our society and world, is experiencing violence and economic chaos, as much as it ever has at any time in history. The multiplicity of issues that the average citizen is experiencing today is light years more intense and complex in comparison.
Our younger generation faces challenges and complexity that any of us could even imagine some thirty or forty years ago.
It seems that we are on a track that is speeding to utter ruin, in spite of how advanced our technology has become.
There have always been wars and ruthless leaders. There has always been violence in our streets and in our own families.
But no matter what types of charitable programs or ideas we can come up with, the human heart is something that always seems to not be tamed.
We care more about our guns and play toys. We yell and scream about our rights, and yet our children keep dying in our schools and on our streets. We are sick to the core and many of us can’t even see our own disease and insanity.
There have always been far-fetched stories and theories, that some have entertained. But now, many of the conspiracies have been propagated and thrown into the very fabric of what many believe and adhere to.
It seems that even facts are questioned and disputed. Our schools are told what to teach even in a manner that wouldn’t offend some. One could truly wonder what things in history have been withheld from our bookshelves, in order to qualify our educational system.
We are more divided as a country than we ever have been, politically, racially, and economically. And yet we should know that “divided we shall fall.”
We have only to look to the past at the great Roman civilization to know how it fell. We don’t stand united, even though our name says that.
And yet that is the only key to unlock what is needed to fix these things. But sadly, that will not be remedied until the final chapter in this world is wrapped-up.
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in my entire holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” Isaiah 11:6-9.
Selah,
