What Is the Function of a True Apostle and Other Five Fold Ministry Gifts?
“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,” Ephesians 4:11-13 KJV.
One of the greatest things that Apostle Paul did as an Apostle is that he comforted, exhorted, and encouraged the church of Thessalonia to walk in holiness and sanctification.
And, not only that he kept it real with them that if they wanted to be apart of the Kingdom of God much tribulations and trials were coming there way but if they were found faithful they would overcome and be victorious!
He did not talk about how the church would be blessed with new cars, houses, etc., but instead he talked about how they were to have brotherly love among one another!
And, how he loved them and was willing to work with them in helping to spread the gospel of Christ!
In fact, He stayed in Athens and sent Timothy ahead of him to comfort, to establish them and as a result Timothy sent him word that the church was holding on and maintaining their faith in God.
Paul was not a selfish man it was not all about him and how he wanted to establish his own kingdom but instead it was about him being transparent with those who followed him and them with him.
He was not like many leaders today who like Delilah trying to pressure you to get information from you so they can use it against you just In case they want or decide to put your eyes out with traps, schemes and plots they have cooked up regarding your destiny to stop it!
But, Apostle Paul was a great Apostle because he taught (lived the life) the people about brotherly love, integrity, holiness and he reproved, rebuked and corrected the church whenever he saw order was in need as he did those that was walking in fornication.
Paul was a bold soldier for the Lord whenever sin needed confronting he did not tuck his tail, hide and run but he met it head on in love!
He said, “Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us,” 1 Thessalonians 2:6-8 KJV.
Paul not only encouraged the church of their faith here on earth but he let them know that you have a greater destiny and purpose than just this earthly tabernacle but a spiritual home that will not decay or corrupt like this house you are dwelling in made after the hands of mere mortal men.
For, I believe that the Lord is saying that the people of God are prone to get weary when they know they are fighting for a corruptible crown but when the soul knows that something more eternal is a waiting the soul it will cry out for a home not made with hands that is eternal in heaven!
And, this is why Apostle Paul went further in his exhortation and his encouragement because he knew that the soul needs more than this old world has to offer to look forward to and so he said,
“To the Thessalonians that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:12-18 KJV.
Apostle Paul saw that the church needed more than just the material things of this world but it’s mission was to spread the gospel, to impart, to teach, train and most of all to get the church ready and prepared for the return of Christ!
So, why is it so many have failed to encourage the church that Christ is soon to come and we are to be ready to meet the bridegroom at his return?
Heaven and hell is a reality and a fate we must eventually face if the church is not perfected when Jesus returns!
Will you be ready?
