What is a Spiritual Hope?
What is a “spiritual hope” and how do we get it?
What will we hope for when the Doctor says there is no hope for a cure? What will we hope for when the boss says the job is no longer ours? What will we hope for when our child takes a direction in life that seems to be a dead end?
What will we hope for when voters select a candidate that they think will bring the end to the world as we know it? What will we hope for when every prayer and every expectation of God has been answered with silence or worse? Can a “spiritual hope” be of any help in such times as these?
Dear reader! There is a spiritual hope beyond whatever hope we may have, or hope we might lack! It’s a hope that God holds out towards us. Can you see that our hope is that, “God hopes”!
God hopes that we will discover what Paul said.
“We are the children of God. And… all creation waits to see how we will reveal ourselves as exactly that.”
We were saved with this hope ahead of us when we gave our lives over into the full care of Christ! Hope means that “we are waiting for something we do not have”. Think about it! How can a man hope for something he already has?
“But! If we hope for something we don’t yet see, we must learn how to wait for it,” Romans 8:24.
Our future as believers does not have to develop from what is possible at this moment, but from what is possible for God, at any moment! Christian hope is powerfully creative! It believes and expects new things!
We believe in a God who says, ‘Behold, I make all things new,’ (Revelation 21:5).
A God, ‘with whom all things are possible,’ (Matthew 19:26).
A God who, ‘gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist,’ (Romans 4:17).
Hope is optimistic!
It opens up to us, genuine and new realities and experiences, revealing new possibilities for us who believe, delivering us from despair and freeing us up for loving service and hope-filled living in a “hope losing” society.
Yes! Hope is optimistic.
In the face of overwhelming odds, it believes that change is possible!
Hope is Actually Futuristic!
It believes in the future! It sees a better day coming.
As a child I loved the biblical prophecy of the “Wolf eating side by side with the Lamb” (Isaiah 11:6) and I continue to be stirred by the glorious vision of the whole earth being full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea, (Habakkuk 2:14).
Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit would show us ‘things to come’ (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit has done just that, for me! He has been “Revolutionizing my faith”, my outlook, making me more future-oriented, giving me as the Bible puts it, ‘a future and a hope.’ (Jeremiah 29:11).
Church! Come on!! Let’s stir up HOPE again! Hope of a better day coming, when God’s will is done on earth, as it is in heaven.
