What Happens When a Person Is ‘Saved’?
There is much confusion as to EXACTLY what happens when a person is saved.
By the Word “Saved” we mean Redeemed and given Life. One is then Saved and given Life from the penalty of Sin and the ungodly world, and as you will read below, each Saved Person is given an inheritance.
Because many have not read EXACTLY what happens at Salvation — the day they first are saved or trust The LORD — many false teachings have been able to exist for lack of understanding or knowledge.
Let us first consider: Ephesians 1:11-14 to see the steps to salvation.
“In whom [IN CHRIST JESUS] also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:11-14.
According to these verses Salvation is obtained by:
First
A person must trust The LORD, but the [only way anyone can trust Him] is to Hear the Word of Truth….. In particular it says they must believe The Gospel Message.
It is clear from other passages of Scripture that the Gospel is the Good News of the Grace of God, and that message is the Death of Jesus for all men’s sins, the Burial of Jesus for or because Jesus died for our sins and those sins were upon him, and The Resurrection of Jesus from the grave which proves that Sins are put to death and forgiven, because of the work of Jesus Christ.
This Gospel Message is declared to be The Power of God Unto Salvation.
See ..
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17.
So it is said that believing The Gospel message is essential, because that Message is The Power of God for men to be saved.
If a person does not hear the right message he could be deceived and lost, but this Message assures his Salvation.
Second
Next after Believing the Gospel, the person will be sealed with The Holy Spirit of Promise.
The instructions say that the Sealing is: A PROMISE. The Promise being Earnest (or a down-payment) of our inheritance.
The Earnest or Down-Payment is by… sealing up of The Holy Spirit.
One will be given a down-payment of The Holy Spirit, which is God IN THE BELIEVER in a portion of His Spirit!
This down payment or Earnest is the Indwelling of The Holy Spirit — sealed up inside the one who believes — and it will last until The Day of Redemption.
The person ‘sealed’ will actually last unto the day he is taken into the Presence of the Lord. This then is saying the person will be completely saved both Body and Soul and in the presence of the Father God.
The sealing is God’s Guarantee — a person will be saved and given eternal life.
It needs to be also said such a saved and sealed person will be Saved Into ‘the Praise’ of God.
In other words God will be praised because it is His Work, not man’s.
The Inheritance should be explained at this time. It simply means all that God has promised you. To consider the meaning read the follow description:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of The Glory of His Grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His Grace; wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; having made known unto us the mystery of His Will, according to His good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: that in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him.” Ephesians 1:3-10.
A careful reading of the above Ephesians’ verses will show you that a person who has been given this Inheritance has received all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.
I suggest, there is actually now words to describe all the blessings received, but one must simply know he has been made HEIR OF ALL THAT GOD HAS.
This is all that it says a person must do to be Saved.
Please note that this passage does not mention Water Baptism or Religious Works. The fact is those things are not even considered until after one is saved.
Literally one cannot Work until he is saved. After Salvation the indwelling of The Holy Spirit will lead him out into good works. But a person must first be saved.
