What About Nicodemus?
Most all who read The Bible are familiar with The Bible Story of Nicodemus the religious pharisee who was a ruler of the Jews.
This classic Bible Story has and still is, speaking very loudly today about: how it is necessary for a “very religious man” to be ‘born again‘ to be saved.
Please read again this bible story:
“There was a man of the pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: the same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from god: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except god be with him.
Jesus answered and said unto him, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see The Kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus saith unto him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”
Jesus answered, verily, verily, “I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into The Kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of The Spirit is Spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of The Spirit.”
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, “How can these things be?”
Jesus answered and said unto him, “Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, we speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?”“ John 3:1-12.
I would like to pose the questions now:
What if Nicodemus had not believed after Jesus told him basically, that his religion was not going to be enough?
Would Nicodemus have been saved, and would he now be accepted with God?
Would Nicodemus go to Hell, if he did not believe Jesus’ Words?
Most people would say yes — he must be born again.
But many people will say one thing…. and then believe another.
After all, many say Nicodemus was a religious man and even a Pharisee, a ruler and member of the strongest religious movement of all, a Jew!
Surely this man would not go to Hell! He was doing his best to be a good Pharisee! He prayed many times a day, fasted, tithed, and did worship God very faithfully.
After all, Nicodemus did “Come to Jesus”, and ask questions!
Surely God would not allow such a good man to go to Hell Fire! God is not that bad and would have mercy on him…. [some may say]!
Of course, if you truly believe The Word of God and what it says, you must take note that Jesus told him: “Nicodemus you must be born-again, and if you are not you cannot even see or understand The Kingdom of God!”
Didn’t Jesus mean what He said? Did he somewhat exaggerate or even tell a falsehood?
Then, if Nicodemus, who was a believer in God and very devoted man in serving his God, would not God understand and overlook his misunderstandings? After all The Bible says you must believe in God.
I tell you the truth: Nicodemus would surely have died and gone to Hell, with all his religious teachings, without believing in Jesus Christ. After all ,Jesus had said to him: “You must…. be born again!”
So what will keep you, [religious man] who are doing so many things ‘for God’ from also going to Hell?
What does God think about religion then?
It is quite clear to me from this story that God has very little respect for a man’s religion, but will only look to see …. if you have Jesus Christ and have been born again.
Many religious people will bust hell wide open! They will be in the fires of hell, tormented in flames…. forever..
Unless they believe in Jesus and are born again!
Added scripture to consider:
“But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the holy ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life,” Titus 3:4-7.
