We Must think Soberly or Else Fall — Part 2
Good afternoon!
Let’s begin to go a little further with sober thinking today.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Here are the other Parts: “We Must Think Soberly or Else Fall – Part 1″
“We Must think Soberly or Else Fall — Part 3“
Reiterating here:
“It is our own choice. Let me emphasis that again… It is our own choice!
It can be a great fall if we don’t Watch and Pray — at all times — that the enemy does not sneak in on us!”
We will go further today:
#1 The flip side of thinking ‘soberly’ is to be ‘intoxicated’ by substances.
To think sober, we must be sober. When you are intoxicated you can’t rationalize right or make good decisions.
Strong drink is strongly warned about in The Bible.
Many will argue all the points on one side or another if Christians can take a social drink or not?
That is ‘Not’ my purpose or intent to debate that here.
My main point is just to show how that intoxicating beverages or drugs does change our very behaviors.
That should not even be debatable. When we get out of our mind with intoxication in any form, we will behave differently.
It is a given! We are then not thinking soberly.
Our actions under influence can have far reaching effects on ourselves and others, sometimes for years.
Even the liquor stores promote their alcohol as ‘spirits sold here.’
Surely we do need to stay sober minded. No way can we be filled with the Spirit and drunk by artificial means at the same time.
Something is then going to manifest — and it’s sure not The Holy Spirit!
It is a mockery to a Holy God to be drunk.
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” Proverbs 20:1
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” Ephesians 5:18
Still I am talking here only about ‘intoxication.’
Note: you take the other aspect up with The LORD of where you believe The Bible means total abstinence or not?
As for me, I do abstain totally, but it’s the grace that The LORD has given me.
#2 Last for today we can be intoxicated on the world.
“Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.” Isaiah 29:9
The world can so blind us and make us drunk on the cares of life!
The cares of the world can even cause dizziness. I personally believe vertigo can come from it.
“And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.” Luke 21:34
We can not be as effective as Christians with the ‘weight of the world’ on our shoulders.
Closing for today and hoping this will be beneficial to someone who needs this.
Here is our warning scripture:
“Be sure your sin will find you out” Numbers 32:23
The solution is for us all to stay ‘sober minded.’
That is only by fixing our attention and gaze on Jesus Christ!
He alone was worthy to open the Book, by the way.
“And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:1-10
God bless you all.
