We Have Overcome!
Match fixing is illegal in any sport the world over! Jesus brought us into a better status where we do not need match fixing with the devil, all we need is to enforce the victory he already wrought for us. We are not fighting a champion we are fighting a defeated foe. We are not fighting to gain victory; we are living from the position of victory. We are exercising dominion over in territories over the enemy. We have already overcome through the sacrificial death of Jesus over everything the devil has done and will ever do.
Child of God, regardless of the intensity of the battle and the fierceness of your predicament, you are a victor in Jesus Christ. This statement is pregnant with great truth and encouragement. Knowing the results of any contest beforehand makes it a non-contest; it brings the confidence to the winner since he is aware that regardless of the twists and turns, he will eventually be the last man standing. This is exactly what Christ did for us at Calvary. “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” Colossians 2:13-15. We were dead in sin – totally defeated; He made us alive by forgiving all our trespasses and took everything that was to our disadvantage out of the way. He disarmed all hierarchy of our enemy and embarrassed them publicly. Now, what is left for us to do? It is to enforce this victory; to stand on God’s word and refuse any contrary facts in our material world. The devil’s ploy is deception and pretence; he moves around ‘like’ a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8), he isn’t but he wants to scare us into submission. He roars with sickness, severe symptoms, broken relationships and rejections, but we are told what to do; “Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world” 1 Peter 5:9. Resists him steadfast in faith, not in fear; be steadfast as you stand on God’s word, do not change because of the pseudo-roaring of the lion. He has no new tricks; he uses the same tricks the world over . Divide and rule, bring misunderstandings and strife, so that he destroys. He brings sickness and accompanies it with alarming medical findings. It is his ploy to convince some through ideas, opinions or even feelings that they are not loved, cannot make it and will never amount to anything! Resist all this steadfast in faith. James wrote; “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” James 4:7. Resist him and he will flee . Resist connotes application of strength, the ability to say no to him and back it up with actions of boldness and refusal to fear no matter the circumstances.
Maybe you have suffered at the hands of the oppressor; you have experienced unwanted occurrences and have felt defeated, friend you are an overcomer. In a boxing match, it matters not how many times one is knocked down, as long as he stands up as many times as when the count is made, and finally he deliver the knock out, he becomes the champion. You shall rise again. You can start again; one set back should not lead to a step back, in Christ you can have as many comebacks as possible and succeed finally. Do not give up at first trial simply because you missed the way or you utterly failed. It is not in our nature as children of God to give up. Even in our day to day lives, we have learnt how to hold on even in hopeless situations, how much more in our spiritual walk. If any misunderstandings led to divorce, many would be divorced on their wedding night! If the pursuit of education was to be determined by convenience, many wouldn’t have made it past the primary grades! If pain was a deterrent in any endeavor, no would have been born, and if any was born he would not have walked, and if any walked they would not lived beyond their first year!! Life is not made by circumstances but by the convictions in one’s heart. Today choose to walk fully in the consciousness of your victory and refuse to fear, refuse to cower, and refuse to give up, because you are the eventual winner in this contest. Do not be deterred by opinions that are not in line with God’s dealings in your life. Get your rhythm from God’s word and ride on the wave of victory Christ brought to us. After all is said and done, you will be the last man standing, when the devil has fled from you.
