Warning: Vengeance Belongs to God!
Vengeance Belongs to God and the Sanctuary (Platforms) Is Not the Place to Get Vengeance!
“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says The LORD,” Romans 12:19.
As we all know, Dinah was a daughter born to Jacob from his first wife, Leah (Genesis 30:21).
However, When Jacob returned to his homeland after working for his father-in-law, Laban he settled in in a place called Shechem.
And, at that particular time Dinah was a young woman who took it upon herself to venture into the city by herself to visit the women there. When Shechem, the son of the city ruler, saw her, he raped her, (Genesis 34)
But, on the third day, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and came against the city while it felt secure and killed all the males” in order to avenge their sister’s honor (Genesis 34:25).
But, the horrible thing was how they did it. You see, when their enemies were sore from the circumcision, could not defend themselves Simeon and Levi attacked them, (cowardly) and this was a scheme headed by and a plot by the two of the sons of Jacob, (Genesis 34:25–29).
Dinah’s relationship with the Canaanite society exposed her to danger, but the violence Shechem perpetrated upon her enemies was unjust in the sight of God and Jacob was unacceptable, (Genesis 34:1–4).
And, to top it all off Jacob was silent when he heard of the assault and it seemed to Simeon and Levi her rapist and his father have treated her as an object to be bartered for and taken advantage of in there eyes so they allowed the enemy to entice them into getting even with their sister’s rapist! Instead of leaving it to God to bring Justice.
I understand why the brothers would have been concerned with their sister’s honor: her brothers Simeon and Levi but what is hard to understand is why they chose to use the sacrificial ceremony to do it!
These two brothers were so blinded by revenge and wanted to seek retributive justice for Shechem, the one who would not even admit his sin so bad that they used the people of God and the things of God to do it!
Which is what Satan does whenever we are blinded by hate, bitterness and resentfulness. But their own actions were so unjust, for they took it upon themselves to put themselves in the place of God to get their Justice without acknowledging him for any directions or instructions in the matter.
So, they strike down all the men of the city as they lay sore from circumcision committing a cowardly act of vengeance.
And, to make matters worse, the other sons of Jacob join them in their greed and capture the wealth, women, and children left behind after their deaths who had done them no harm. The punishment does not fit the crime.
Scripture lets us know The LORD did not approve of their actions for two reasons.
First, Jacob passes Simeon and Levi over as the ruling tribes of Israel in favor of Judah and,
Secondly, they use the ceremony of circumcision, in which God pledges to keep His covenant promises faithfully (in order to deceive Hamor and his subjects).
As we know that read scripture it was God who always gave the go ahead to go up and to allow the men of God to go up and to recover all but here we see Simeon and Levi taking matters in their own hands, but I believe God is warning us what happens when we allow hate to fester in our hearts without seeking healing and he warn us against going too far when we seek to right a wrong.
For, I believe that He is saying that “We must beware, lest, after we have become severe judges in condemning the faults of others, we hasten inconsiderately into evil that is within our own hearts!”
God is speaking loudly in this season regarding the platforms in both the nations and our church how we are using others; even the sanctuary and the things of God to preach, pray and to spew hate in the hearts of others!
Bitterness is resentful cynicism that results in an intense antagonism or hostility toward others.
The Bible teaches us to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.”
It then goes on to tell us how to deal with such bitterness and its fruits by being “kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you,” (Ephesians 4:31-32).
The scripture also tells us that bitterness is like a spring springing up: Bitterness means “sharp like an arrow or pungent to the taste, disagreeable; venomous.”
Bitterness can affect one experiencing profound grief or anything that acts on the mind in the way poison acts on the body and this is why God encouraged us to get rid of it!
Because it hinders our judgment and blinds us to the things of God and even playing as though we are God being both judge and jurors!
