Victory in our Lives, but darkness in the World around us
I wanted to point out something here that I believe needs to be understood and made clear to us. We are told in scripture in several places that we have victory over the enemy and that through our faith in God that we can move mountains. However, we live in a world that is filled with darkness and sin.
“For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you” Isaiah 60:2.
And also it becomes very clear that we are living in the last days based upon all the reports we keep hearing of the continued violence, treachery, deceit, and hatred that abounds around us. This type of horrendous sin and deceit finds itself displayed in all forms in society and we see it outlined well in many portions of scripture, particularly in 2 Timothy 3:1-5,
“But understand this that in the last days there will come times of stress. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people” 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
We know from all of the reports that we hear around the globe that there is violence seen throughout the entire world. There is violence in the schools that is constantly on the rise. There is corruption and greed in many institutions and places of business, not the least of which is seen in such places as Wall Street, the government, and in other places too numerous to mention. And this corruption and violence is not limited to just one country, but it extends to every geographical area in the world.
While we are told that we are more than conquerors through our faith in the Lord Jesus, our influence cannot eliminate the corruption in its entirety in these other spheres or places, throughout the globe. We live in a fallen world and man has been given free will, and his heart is inherently evil. So when we hear of darkness increasing around the globe, and we know that God is the light of the world, that doesn’t mean that the darkness will be eliminated.
For now we dwell in a land where darkness is pervasive and its canopy has overshadowed much in the world. That darkness is eliminated in us when we allow his light to be shed in its fullness. We go from glory unto glory, and from light unto light, in its brilliance of revelation knowledge, and unto maturity. But as that light increases in us, it is overshadowed because of the blindness to those who don’t accept it.
Each of us has our own sphere of influence, and the light that has been given to us can be spread based upon the ministry of the Holy Spirit in and upon us. But hurricanes still come and will destroy cities and people. Earthquakes and other catastrophic events happen and will continue to rise, as God’s prophetic time table is unfurled.
As seen in the verses above from 2 Timothy 3, many will continue to be haters of what is good. They will be filled full of hatred and deceit like never before, and some will have a form of religion, but they will deny the power that can come from the Holy Spirit.
We can’t change the world as it continues on its course that has been outlined according to God’s prophetic time table. Nations will rise and fall, false prophets and teachers will be seen, and those who follow after God in these days will even be thrown out of the churches because of their faith and fervor in following after what God would have them to do.
But we know that even as the darkness increases around us, that the light that has been given to us, will increase all the more, and even though the darkness is on the rise it has never understood the light, nor has it been able to quell it.
“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” John 1:5.
