Unrighteousness – a Second Look
After the research for the previous post, God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness, the direction of the writing took an unexpected turn of direction. As a result, I reread the original research material and looked at it again, but from a different viewpoint, and yet again, as the Lord spoke to me and educated me.
Romans 1:18 makes it very plain the view of God, when it comes to unrighteousness, as it says:
“For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.”
God’s message is clear, the intentionally unrighteous will receive His wrath. God then goes on to explain why:
“Because the thing which may be known of God is clearly revealed within them, for God revealed it to them” Romans 1:19 and,
“Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened” Romans 1:21.
In other words, God says simply that He has adequately revealed Himself to them, yet they have still rejected Him.
God then goes on to tell us the results of this rejection and the unrighteousness which these sad people have called down upon themselves, by their egotistical and selfish actions, saying in Romans 1:24
“Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.”
“Uncleanness” here in the Bible is a scriptural term* for sodomy, homosexuality and other sexual perversions of men and of women. Furthermore, note that it was God who gave them up to it, or “permitted them” to give themselves over to sodomy, homosexual sin and similar sexual perversions.
This gives us a different view and different perspective of the rampant homosexuality movement which is now sweeping America and other countries. It means that the homosexuality movement is not in essence physical in nature, but spiritual. It means that the “cure” is not physical, but spiritual!
Let us now look to the teaching of the Lord in Second Peter 2:9-22 where this topic and theme continues:
” 9The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust for a day of judgement, to be punished, 10and especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise dominion. They are darers, self-pleasing; not trembling at glories, speaking evil.
11Where angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reproaching accusation against them before the Lord.
12But these, as unreasoning natural brute animals having been born for capture and corruption, speak evil of the things that they do not understand. And they will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13being about to receive the wages of unrighteousness, deeming indulgence as pleasure in the daytime, and revelling in spots and blemishes, feasting along with you in their deceits, 14having eyes full of adultery and never ceasing from sin, alluring unstable souls, having a heart exercised with covetousness. They are cursed children 15who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, 16but had reproof of his lawbreaking, a dumb ass speaking in a man’s voice, held back the madness of the prophet.
17These are wells without water, clouds driven with a tempest, for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever. 18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error; 19promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.
20For if they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the full knowledge of the Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ, and are again entangled, they have been overcome by these, their last things are worse than the first. 21For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than fully knowing it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22But the word of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog turning to his own vomit; and, The washed sow to wallowing in the mire.”
Peter here in Second Peter 2:9-22 outlines for us 16 sins of the sodomites. They are as follows:
Commit homosexual sins | v10 | …and especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness …. |
Despise government and law | v10 | …. and despise dominion….. |
Are presumptuous, bold, daring, headstrong and reckless | v10 | They are darers, self-pleasing; not trembling at glories, speaking evil. |
Are self sufficient in their own eyes | v10 | They are darers, self-pleasing; not trembling at glories, speaking evil. |
Speak evil of lawful authority | v10 | …. and despise dominion….. |
Live like brute beasts | v12 | But these, as unreasoning natural brute animals.. |
Speak evil and blasphemy | v12 | … , speak evil of the things that they do not understand…. |
Commit sins in open daylight and without a sense of shame | v13 | … deeming indulgence as pleasure in the daytime, and revelling in spots and blemishes, … |
Make sport of their deceptions | v13 | … feasting along with you in their deceits, … |
Have eyes full of adultery | v14 | … having eyes full of adultery … |
Beguile innocents and unstable souls and leading them into perversion | v14 | … and never ceasing from sin, alluring unstable souls, having a heart exercised with covetousness … |
Have forsaken the right way | v15 | … who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, …. |
Live in covetousness (greed) | v14-15 | … having a heart exercised with covetousness …. who loved the wages of unrighteousness … |
v22 | … the dog turning to his own vomit; and, the washed sow to wallowing in the mire. | |
Are braggarts and boasters | v18 | … they speak great swelling words of vanity … |
Seduce and allure others to surrender chastity and live in lusts | v18 | … they lure through the lusts of the flesh … |
Promise men liberty from sin, but they themselves are sinful | v19 | … promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved. |
As Peter says in Second Peter 2:9-10 “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust for a day of judgement, to be punished, and especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness.” The Lord will have his judgement upon them, and that judgement is spelt out in Revelation 21:8 where it reads:
“But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, will have their part in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Please note: this is not the will of the Father. God did not prepare hell for mankind, as Jesus says in Matthew 25:41, but was an “everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.” The will of the Father was and is, that all mankind be saved and receive salvation; for that was the purpose of Calvary; that is the purpose of the Great Commission.
The unrighteous and their unrighteousness are an abomination to God, though the solution for them is simple: repent. Jesus spoke to Paul (Saul) of Tarsus on the Road to Damascus commissioning him for the same commission we have. As Jesus said in Acts 26:16-18
“Rise and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of what you saw, and in what I shall appear to you; delivering you from the people and the nations, to whom I now send you in order to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the authority of Satan to God, so that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.“
As we approach the end of this age, the enemy is increasing his onslaught and enslavement of mankind in certain places seems to be increasing. The scales of deception have covered their eyes and they can no longer see the truths which the Lord God Almighty has placed before them.
For those of us who remain free, we now need to desperately pray for our blinded and enslaved brothers and sisters. In this, let us remember the above and Second Corinthians 10:3-6 which says:
“For though walking about in flesh, we do not war according to flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, pulling down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ; and having readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
Prayer is the answer.
Such a simple statement, but so easily overlooked. We are reminded of it in First Timothy 2:1-4 where we are asked to pray for our nations, but how many even do that?
“First of all, then, I exhort that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, the Lord has called us and given us the tools and weapons for victory in His name. Let us answer His call !!!
Amen and Amen and Amen.
*Other New Testament occurrences of “uncleanness”:

Ephesians 4:19 | For they, being past feeling, have given themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. |
Ephesians 5:3 | For let fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness not be once named among you, as becomes saints,…. |
