Unprofitable and Useless
As I published on FaceBook today…
“Avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.” Titus 3:9.
Does this not sum up so much of FaceBook — unprofitable and useless?
It is the great time-waster of our day — worse than texting; worse than just about any other activity.
Actually it’s worse than time-wasting — it is the great procrastination excuse provider.
“Oh hang on, I’ll just answer this . . . “
It’s a distraction away from whatever God has called you to do.
It is one of Satan’s great weapons — and I’m as guilty as anyone else. It could be a great evangelistic tool, but for the most part, Satan has taken something that we can use for great good and for Kingdom Purposes, and he has turned it against The Kingdom of God.
Unprofitable and useless are strong words — so are “foolish controversies and quarrels about the law”.
What I see daily on FaceBook, are a great number of Christians discussing, arguing, debating, dividing, almost warring over theology, or doctrine, or even whether a verse of scripture means one thing or another — often twisting and deliberately misconstruing what was written to their own ends.
I ask myself first, but let me also ask you, What are you doing about Matthew 28:18-20, or about Mark 16:15-18?
“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of The Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I AM with you always, even to the end of the age.”” Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20.
” And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”” Mark 16:15-18.
It strikes me we have two imperatives from Jesus.
The first is to love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves.
The second imperative is The Great Commission.
That’s not a long list is it?
Love God and your neighbour, preach the Gospel, and make Disciples.
OK baptise them too, but that is surely part of the disciple-making process.
The real problem is that we are doing the opposite of, and totally ignoring, 2 Timothy 4:1-5.
” I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:1-5.
We are listening to and worse still, arguing about, ear-tickling and completely un-Biblical nonsense instead of “doing the work of an evangelist” – or fulfilling the great commission.
Here’s what I think is the bottom line of all this wasted effort.
We are not keeping our lamps full and wicks trimmed. We are being diverted away from being prepared for revival, and ultimately, the Bridegroom’s Return.
Just thinkin’ — that’s all…..

I agree 100%. Facebook has been a platform to divide people of faith. I came out of that nasty place in 2020. I am very much relieved and spend more time with the Word.
Elon Musk trying to purchase twitter found out that possibly 90 percent of comments and chats could be from AI bots pretending to be people. I think this has been social media dark power and secret almost like an intentional cyop to destroy the truth. Think about this a possible 90 percent of information coming at you is slanted in humanism with a socialist agenda. These platforms produce nothing of equitable value yet are worth billions because of people buying advertising space to sell their products think about this have you ever seen an ad on one of these platforms and bought the products or is money coming from getting paid to promote a dark sinister agenda through demonic bots
I agree with you Sir. In addition, this is also one of the reasons behind the too many Churches springing up like water & many versions of the Holy Bible. Today, many Christians & non Christians use Theology that was written by men based on their human thinking & not Holy spirit led to erroneously argue on meanings of particular scriptures or Bible books as if the Holy spirit who inspired the writers/prophets was wrong. These have brought nothing profitable to the body of Christ other than satanic division/disunity, fragmentation, confusion, competition, unnecessary scrutiny, wrong interpretation of the Holy Bible amongst others. Holy spirit, please come to our help us. Thanks so much!
