Praying the 23rd Psalm
A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Heavenly Father,
I bow before you. You and You alone are my Lord and God and there is no other in heaven or earth before you. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the maker of all in heaven and on earth and I raise open and empty hands before you in praise and prayer.
Father, You are my Shepherd. You lead me and You guide me. You protect me and You care for me. You have fought battles for me and You have given Your Son for me, that I may be redeemed by His Holy Blood. You are the Shepherd of all Shepherds! You are Jehovah-Rohi, You are The Lord, My Shepherd.
Father, in You I want of nothing, for You know of all my needs even before the words are on my lips, even before I am aware of my own needs, You have provided. You are Jehovah-Jireh, You are The Lord who Provides.
As I walk, You lead my feet, Oh Father. You provide space and comfort for me to lie down in green pastures where I shall be safe and where I shall be provisioned and where I shall be cared for, by Your mighty hand.
Wherever I go, You also lead me beside the still waters, that I may wash, bathe and slake my thirst in these, Your pure clear waters. In Your waters, Oh Lord, there is no fear and there is no danger.
I thank you, Lord, that in these places of green pasture and still waters, You continuously refresh me and restore my soul. You allow me to rest and recover and You never overburden me, for that which You require of me. You are Jehovah-Shammah, You are The Lord who is Present, always present with me.
Oh Lord, whenever I am lost and know not where to turn, You are there and You lead my paths. You take me by the hand and lead me in the paths of righteousness which you have destined for me before the earth was formed and You do this for Your Own Name, for You and You alone are Jehovah-Tsidkeenu, You are the Lord, our Righteousness. I thank You, Lord, for the paths down which I have been led by You and I submit now to follow all Your paths for all my days.
Father, as I come to walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I know I shall fear no evil for You will be with me. Your Son has paid the price for my sins and I am redeemed by His Precious Blood. I know the enemy has no claim on me for I am Yours. As I walk in troubles in this world, I know that you will always be watching over me, for You are my Shepherd, and Your rod and Your staff, they give me great comfort. There is nowhere I can go, that You cannot reach out and rescue me and bring me home. There is nowhere I can go where you cannot follow and where I cannot hear your voice calling to me. You are such a comfort to me when I am troubled in this life. If I wander off, I know You will come after me and correct me, for You correct Your children.
When those who would do me harm are all around, You continue to look after me. Oh Lord, You continue to bless me, and even in the presence of my enemies, You will even prepare a banquet table before me. And there, before all, You anoint my head with precious oil, and anointing for Your use and for Your use only. Oh Lord, Your oil is so liberal, so sweet, so smooth. Even the cups on the table, you fill to overflowing. With You Lord, there are no empty cups, or half empty cups, but with You all cups are full to overflowing for those who will do Your will, for those who will follow in the footsteps of Your Son Jesus.
Father, as I study Your Word, I can recognise that You are righteous and true and that which You avow, will always be done. I thank You that I can rely totally on Your Word and know that Your goodness and mercy will surely follow me all the days of my life. I know also that I shall dwell in Your house forever and ever, for Jesus has told us that in Your mansions, there are many rooms and that He went to prepare a place for us, for me. Oh Lord, You truly are Jehovah-Gmolah, the Lord who Recompenses. You truly are Jehovah-Heleyon, The Lord Most High.
You are my LORD and GOD, You are my Shepherd and in the wonderful name of Your Son, in the wonderful name of my Savour, The Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pray.
Amen and Amen and Amen.
