The Wisdom from Above and the Wisdom from Below
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy” James 3:17.
“But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work” James 3:14-16.
Wisdom is an important attribute to have in this life. When one is wise, they are guarded against foolish and dangerous things that can happen in their lives.
But there is also a wisdom that one might have as a scholar or one that has gained knowledge from a variety of different subjects. One may be intelligent about history, technology, science, or art. Many have learned the fine art of debate. Some know how to dispute and make their arguments about different subjects. But God has made foolish the wisdom of this world.
“Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” 1 Corinthians 1:20.
When one is arrogant and self-serving they are not wise. They may indeed find a way to climb the corporate ladder in a business, but they may also have trampled down many others in the process.
One is considered wise who holds their tongue. Instead of rattling off endless information, when one is aware of what the other person is saying, then they are “in tune” with the ebb and flow of a conversation. This is especially true in a marriage relationship.
But if one is full of peace and is reasonable, then their conversation with others can be fruitful. It is an art to have learned this skill, and the tools and skills learned in this endeavor, can help one to live a healthy and productive life.
Proverbs 9:10 says,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. “
When one is reverent towards God they develop an insight and understanding that comes from Him, that then provides a key to unlock not only the mysteries of this life, but a template in dealing with the many issues that are encountered.
One of the chief things is to get wisdom. For it is said that in the getting of wisdom, one then gets understanding.
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all they getting get understanding” Proverbs 4:7.
Solomon was considered to be the wisest of all men when he lived. He had acquired an understanding and a depth of knowledge of many things. But even with Solomon’s great wisdom and understanding
of matters of life and relationships, he had made the mistake of allowing wives and concubines into his life from other religions and philosophies. He had not guarded himself from the influence of this, and in time it may have caused his downfall.
In conclusion, we are told to guard our hearts, for Proverbs 4:23 says,
“Keep your heart with all vigilance for from it flow the springs of life.”

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the Lord is a special way in 1975 and has been prophesying regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are to be reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
