The Walking Dead, or Walking in the Spirit of Life
There is a show out that is called “The Walking Dead” that perhaps many have watched. On the show one watches various scenes of people who have been bitten and have ended up walking around like zombies, feeding upon others. It’s a survival story about how some have escaped from the frenzy and horror of encountering these creatures, and yet many have been turned into zombies themselves.
I began to think about it some and then realized that before we knew the Lord we were like that. We walked around aimlessly, half-crazed perhaps, finding whatever you could find to gratify our flesh. We were like monsters that couldn’t ever have our needs fully met. There was no life in us as we went from day-to-day in our lives. Colossians says that we were dead in our sins, until we were forgiven and then quickened to a new life in the Lord.
“13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses” Colossians 2:13-17.
Zombies exist only to satisfy their own cravings. They want to bring the living into their existence. They don’t respond to the beautiful things of this word, like love, or peace, or joy. Many of us lived this type of existence before we knew the Lord.
But when we reached out to God, He gave us a new life in Him. We began a life where we longer walked around in a stupor. We were now alive and we found out that life was worth living.
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) (Ephesians 2:4-5).
We know a man who walked this earth and lived a sinless life. He came and was set up upon a cross to die, and many thought that He was to die and to remain dead. And yet He came back to new life, as He came forth out of the grave. When He came forth he wasn’t tearing His clothes or walking aimlessly about. His Father had transformed Him and He rose to become the risen Lord we know today. And yet, many who have received their life and touch from Him, can now possess the same life that He came to give. It is one that has the resurrected life and the spirit of God himself in it.
Many are still walking around in this life like zombies. They have no life in themselves. They feed upon the things of this world, and yet they are never satisfied. But there is new life available to them in the form of the risen Savior and the person of Jesus Christ.
