The Superiority of Jesus Christ the Son of God

…. which includes a discussion of the Old and New Covenants.

Today we will look at:

Part 1 : The Superiority of Jesus Christ as Deity, and to the Angels

First of all, in Hebrews 1, we read that the Son is superior to the prophets, whom God would speak through of old, before Christ.

BUT NOW, in these last days, He speaks through HIS SON. Let’s look at His superiority in deity:

1. The Son has been appointed HEIR, or owner, of ALL THINGS, and He made the worlds (1:2).

He is LORD (1:10). He laid the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the works of His hands.

The Son will never perish but will continue permanently, He will never grow old and wear out like the creation. He remains and His years will never end nor come to failure. HE IS ETERNAL (1:12).

2. The Son is so much better than the Angels (1:4-7). The Son is superior to the Angels in place, rank, and name.

The scripture says He is so much better than the Angels because of the glorious excellent name which He received by inheritance.

God has never called the Angels ‘My Son’, given them a Sonship relation and kingly dignity. The Angels are called by God to worship the Son.

The Angels are spirits, they are God’s ministering servants flames of fire, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation. They do not sit at the right hand of God (1:13).

3. HE IS GOD. The Son is the brightness, or radiance, of God’s glory, and the express image of His person, the perfect imprint and very image of God’s nature with all of His attributes.

The Son upholds (maintains,guides, propels) all things by the mighty Power of His Word (1:3). For God says unto the Son in verse 8, “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy Kingdom. His enemies will ultimately be His footstool (1:13)

4. The Son is GOD INCARNATE, our SAVIOR, for He by offering Himself purged or cleansed our sins, and now sits on the right hand of the Majesty on high (1:3).

The Son was made a little lower than the Angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by The Grace of God should taste death for every man.

He is the CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION (2:10)

5. He is ANOINTED by God with the oil of exultant joy and gladness above and beyond ANYONE (1:9).

As you can see, the Son of God is God Himself, He is truly above all.
