The Spirit of Babylon
I would like to share a revelation that my husband received the other morning…
While he was in prayer He heard, “The stars of Babylon are fools in heaven. And those that are considered fools in Babylon are the stars of heaven.”
When we first read this, our initial thought is attributed to the unbeliever, or even the “stars of Hollywood.”
But this doesn’t just apply to those who are of the world, this also applies to those who are in the Church and who seek earthly promotion and man’s approval. And although they may claim with their lips “not so”, their actions reveal their inner most desires and motives.
Even some who claim to be watchmen, find themselves involved in an eternal hustle for popularity, subscribers, “likes” on social media, purchasers of their products, bookings, platforms, and offerings.
But when we look at the life of Christ, we see that He lived the complete opposite of what the majority of the church promotes today.
Jesus lived simply, loved simply, served simply, and more importantly, He gave all honor to the Father, and made no reputation for Himself (Philippians 2:7).
In biblical times, Babylon was known for its power, riches and beauty. The most prominent king of ancient Babylon was Nebuchadnezzar, who is mentioned in several old testament accounts from the Book of Daniel, to Ezra and 2 Chronicles.
However, in The LORD’s eyes, Babylon was a place full of idolatry, vanities, pride, and immorality. A disturbing fact is that when we view most of the western Church today, we find some of the same characteristics within.
Revelation chapter 18 talks about the judgement and destruction of a woman called Mystery Babylon.
There is much debate as to whether or not the scripture is referencing an actual place, or a spiritual system and mind set.
The scriptures tend to argue both sides. In verse 4, we read that John hears a voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.”
As we draw closer to the end of this dispensation (age of grace), we as the true Bride of Christ need to make sure that we are not partaking in the sins of spiritual of Babylon.
In a day and age where pretty much everything is at our fingertips, just one click away, we need to use wisdom and make sure our flesh is disciplined and subjected under the spirit of truth, and not falling into the temptations of the evil one.
We also need not to look for man’s approval of us, but God’s. Remember, the world will hate you because it hates Christ and the spirit of truth.
Let us humble ourselves and find contentment (and our identity) in Christ.
Spiritual Food For Thought…..
