The Spider and the Fly
The Spider and the Fly Poem Speaks
By Mary Howitt (1799-1888)
“Will you walk into my parlor?” said the spider to the fly;
“’Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you did spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to show when you are there.”
“O no, no,” said the little fly, “to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne’er come down again.”
“I’m sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high;
Will you rest upon my little bed?” said the spider to the fly.
“There are pretty curtains drawn around, the sheets are fine and thin,
And if you like to rest awhile, I’ll snugly tuck you in.”
“O no, no,” said the little fly, “for I’ve often heard it said,
They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed.
”Said the cunning spider to the fly, “Dear friend, what shall I do,
To prove the warm affection I’ve always felt for you?
I have within my pantry good store of all that’s nice;
I’m sure you’re very welcome; will you please to take a slice?”
“O no, no,” said the little fly, “kind sir, that cannot be;
I’ve heard what’s in your pantry, and I do not wish to see.”
“Sweet creature!” said the spider, “You’re witty and you’re wise!
How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes!
I have a little looking-glass upon my parlor shelf,
If you’ll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself.”
“I thank you, gentle sir,” she said, “for what you’re pleased to say,
And bidding you good-morning now, I’ll call another day.”
The spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly fly would soon be back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready to dine upon the fly.
Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing
“Come hither, hither, pretty fly, with the pearl and silver wing:
Your robes are green and purple; there’s a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead.”
Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little fly,
Hearing his wily flattering words, came slowly flitting by.
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew
Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue;
Thinking only of her crested head — poor foolish thing! At last,
Up jumped the cunning spider, and fiercely held her fast.
He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den,
Within his little parlor; but she ne’er came out again!
And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne’er give heed;
Unto an evil counselor close heart, and ear, and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale of the Spider and the Fly.
I hear this: Religion should be substituted for the “Spider” and for the fly… Should say…. “The Christian.”
Of course the devil is behind the story of the spider, he is always spinning his web. And his favorite web is religion!
The devil [spider] desires to drag the “Christian” back into bondage.
Religion is bondage.
Those who are religious, constantly seek to force those who are free in Jesus Christ to come back to religion and be bound by its many vices.
Jesus died to set men free. You are free in Christ… Do not let the [religious spider] confuse your freedom. Walk in freedom and return never again to the bondage of The Law.
Jesus Christ set us free from condemnation …
Do not ever go back! Don’t believe the lie of religion, walk free in Christ, and be never bound again!
“But [all went well, for] not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled [as some had anticipated] to be circumcised, despite the fact that he was a Greek.
My concern was because of the false brothers [those people masquerading as Christians] who had been secretly smuggled in [to the community of believers]. They had slipped in to spy on the freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us back into bondage [under the Law of Moses]. But we did not yield to them even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel would continue to remain with you [in its purity],” Galatians 2:3-5.

I have written this Warning Word in Obedience to my LORD.
LORD, please help your people walk free of EVIL RELIGION, where they will be eaten alive by the enemy of their souls.

‘ Freedom’ outside the law is not freedom at all, but lawlessness; ” But the man who looks intently into the PERFECT LAW that GIVES FREEDOM and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has HEARD, but DOING it- he will be blessed IN WHAT HE DOES.(Jas1:25) When “the law WAS NO MORE ” is the time when Zion was destroyed as it is written in La2:9: ” Her( Zion) gates sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, THE LAW IS NO MORE…” So many times the LORD spoke against The REBELLIOUS Israel almost the same words as it is written in Eze20:16,24:” because they had not obeyed my laws but had rejected my decrees and desecrated MY Sabbath.” It is required for the PRIESTS who will minister before the LORD even NOW That ” They are to keep my laws and my decrees for all my appointed feast, and they are to keep MY Sabbath holy.”( Eze44:24); It is from Zion ( where the LORD has chosen to be his dwelling -Ps132:13-14)that the law will go out as it is written in Isa2:1-4: In the last days ( NOW ) the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will streams to it… he will teach us his ways (Ps119:1) so that we may walk in his path (Ps119:105), The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem…” “O LORD, blessed is the man you discipline, the man you teach from your law.( Ps94:12) Amen!
