The Right Key
I saw a door, just a door.
I saw two keys. One was gold, bright and shining and it looked valuable.
The other key was a very dull, black key that looked very ordinary — just a plain, old, black key.
I tried the door but it was locked. I tried the gold key but nothing happened except the key got a bit stuck in the lock.
Eventually, after much wiggling around, it relinquished its claim to the lock and came out again.
The plain black key slipped into the lock smoothly, turned just as smoothly, and opened the door.
I opened the door. It was heavy, but swung open silently and smoothly revealing its secret hidden for so long behind it.
I was just about to step through and have a look when The LORD’s voice stopped me.
“All that glistens is not gold,” He said.
“You assumed wrongly that the ‘most important looking’ key was the one for the job.”
I thought about this for a moment before He continued, “The one least likely looking one was the one I hoped you would choose.
It’s like Jesse’s boys — Samuel would have chosen the wrong one too.
You see, I don’t look outwardly, I only look at the heart and My choice was David who was a man after My own heart.”
I asked The LORD what message I should take from this?
What is He saying to us today?
“In this coming season,” says The LORD, “test everything!
The great deception is upon you. The deceiver is coming to you with all manner of lies.
In this season you will see that the first shall be last while the last shall be first!
In this season, I shall use the foolish to confound the wise. Children will understand more than their teachers and will perform astounding miracles.
This will bring major confusion to the hearts and minds of many in this coming season, as I use that which is considered foolish to bring wisdom to all who will listen.”
“This,” says The LORD, “Is all part of separating wheat from chaff.
All that glitters is not gold. More likely, it will be another deceit from the enemy, sent to cause dissension and confusion among you.
Just as the coming season is one of great harvest, so it is also the season of both deception, and sorting wheat and chaff!”
“Stay on your guard. Be vigilant.
Listen to Me, and all will be well!” says The LORD.
