The Prayer of Jabez
A psalm to praise and sing to God, out loud.
The Prayer of Jabez
There is a simple yet powerful prayer
Spoken once upon a time
By a little known man by the name of Jabez
He was more honorable than his brothers,
And even though his name meant “pain”,
That did not keep him from seeking
The blessings His LORD had for him every day
Oh how he loved and trusted The LORD;
He loved Him with all his strength,
With all his mind, and with all his heart
He lived his life for Him as a willing vessel
And through his weakness and humbleness,
He asked The LORD to expand his territory;
To give him more ministry for the Glory of God
He put The LORD’s plans before his—
His trust and faith were rewarded
With miracles that transcended his name and circumstances
And put him on the righteous path
Of the Will of The LORD for him
Oh Jabez, oh Jabez,
His simple yet powerful prayer
Aligned with the Heart and Will of The LORD
And all He had for him:
“Oh, that You would bless me
And enlarge my territory!
May Your Hand be with me
And keep me from harm
So that I will be free from pain.”
The LORD’s Hand was with Jabez
Despite feeling overwhelmed
Despite feeling things spiral out of control
Despite feeling weak
With failure taunting him
He kept strong day by day
And walked the righteous path
Oh did he make a mistake?
Oh did he take on too much?
Oh for he lived his life by faith;
Depending on The LORD
Despite what it appeared to look like
He took shelter in The LORD
Under the shadow of His Wings
He surrendered to The LORD
Allowing The LORD’s greatness to work through him
Ohhhhh the impossible faded away
For The Strong Hand of The LORD moved
And guided Jabez through and through
Oh Jabez, oh Jabez,
His simple yet powerful prayer
Aligned with the Heart and Will of The LORD
And all He had for him:
“Oh, that You would bless me
And enlarge my territory!
May Your Hand be with me
And keep me from harm
So that I will be free from pain.”
Oh how Jabez’s simple prayer
Transformed his life
Even when things became too much
For him to do alone without failing
He called out to The LORD:
“LORD thy God help me!”
The LORD shone His Face upon him!
His Hand was with him!
Oh Jabez believed in The LORD’s Word
He believed that He would protect him from evil
He lived his life in triumph through The LORD’s Goodness and Mercy!
Oh Jabez, oh Jabez,
His simple yet powerful prayer
Aligned with the Heart and Will of The LORD
And all He had for him:
“Oh, that You would bless me
And enlarge my territory!
May Your Hand be with me
And keep me from harm
So that I will be free from pain.”
Oh there is a Jabez that lives in us all
The LORD is waiting for you
To ask for and expect His Blessings for you today
To walk in His Will for you
Won’t you take that step of faith?
And Jabez called on the God of Israel:
“Oh, that You would bless me
And enlarge my territory!
May Your Hand be with me
And keep me from harm
So that I will be free from pain.”
And God granted his request
Ohhhh, Ohhhh, Ohhhh,
AMEN!
“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.” 1 Chronicles 4:9-10
“What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” James 4:1-3
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” Proverbs 10:22
“And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,” Exodus 34:6
“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
“And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”” Mark 11:22-24
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8
