The Lull Before the Storm
Something a little bit different today! This is something I wrote in 2002.
The LORD brought me back to the original this morning as we were talking about the slowing down of “Awakening and Revival” since Asbury went quiet.
I always said that Asbury was no more than a taster, a sample, of that which is to come — very probably later this year!
Today I wrote,
“Everywhere I look, every report we receive, tells me that The Holy Spirit is moving among us. Signs of the long awaited awakening and revival. We are truly in the Lull before the Storm!”
This is the Lull of which I spoke over 20 years ago! This is the “Jesus is coming soon” of which I spoke back then, and many times since then. Much of this is happening NOW, in March 2023!
The Lull Before the Storm
The Word of God depicts Jesus’ return as on a cloud, Revelation 1:7, “Behold, He is coming with the clouds.”
See also Daniel 7:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:17 and Revelation 14:14, “Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.”
See also Matthew 17:5, Daniel 7:13; Revelation 1:13, Psalm 21:3, Revelation 6:2. Elijah spoke of ‘a cloud as big as a mans hand.’ (1 Kings 18:40)
Some time ago I received a Vision of a storm cloud over a city with thunder and lightning coming from a source of light, so bright, I could not look on it.
A short while later, I had a Vision of Jesus as depicted in Revelation 1:13-16,
“and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.”
Today, I see the storm cloud approaching again. This time it is not for a city, but for the whole United Kingdom and Europe as well.
I see Jesus as in Revelation chapter 1 again, but this time standing in the storm cloud. This time the cloud is hovering a short way from us — off shore you might say.
This is the Lull Before the Storm
I believe The LORD is telling us that time is short — that there is a new urgency about His Business.
As the time comes closer for end time revival, so The LORD is speaking more and more through His Prophets.
I understand with this further Vision of the storm cloud and of The LORD Himself standing in the middle of it, that is a further confirmation that He is just waiting for the Father’s Signal — the Trumpet Blast from heaven.
When that Signal is given, we shall see such things as will make our hair stand on end — way beyond what we are capable of dreaming or imagining.
This coming Revival is about to begin!
The LORD is at the door, knocking, waiting for our answer.
“Here I AM! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My Voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and He with Me.” Revelation 3 16
Yet what is holding Him back — what is it that still needs to be done?
Biblically speaking, a cloud is frequently used to signify the Glory of God or the presence of God. We need the presence of The LORD right now more than ever before.
We need to listen to The Voice of The LORD, to experience His presence and hear Him speak to us. What is it that is stopping us? Two things I believe.
First, Unity in The Body just does not exist to the extent that The LORD requires of us. To achieve this level of unity, we need to put aside our own agendas and pick up God’s agenda.
I am talking here specifically about The United Kingdom – oh, we are such a stiff necked people! When are we going to learn to pray for each other with NO side agenda?
When will we realise that we cannot attach ‘terms and conditions’ to our prayers? When will we pray Jabez’s prayer for each other, without saying ‘and me Lord’, or ‘me first, Lord’ under our breath. “
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And The LORD granted his request.” (1 Chronicles 4:10).
Our selfishness is destroying so many of the blessings which The LORD has for His people. If we cannot learn to share with, or give away those blessings to our brothers and sisters just because The LORD asks us to do so, then we are going to miss out on the greater part of what He has for us.
And yet, we are still so selfish in asking for revival ‘in my Church’, but we still would not know how to handle it if it came!
How may of us can place our hands on our hearts and say, “We are ready and could cope with revival in our town.””
If 10 new Christians came to every Church, each week, in The United Kingdom today, we could not cope! We would panic. Yet here we are calling for a Revival, which will bring millions to our Churches.
God help us in our self-satisfied contentedness that we are ‘doing all right’.
No wonder, then, that we do not experience His presence nor do we hear what He is saying to us.
The second thing stopping us entering into and experiencing The Presence of The LORD is our busyness – (Psalm 46 10) “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Surely this is the purpose of our stillness — that The LORD may be exalted throughout the earth.
Many Churches nowadays have so many clubs, societies, groups, studies, or prayer days/ evenings/ meetings that we are simply too busy to stop and be still.
We are just too busy to stay still long enough to just listen to His heartbeat, to listen to Him speaking to us, to listen at all.
Our prayers are still so full of ‘gimme, gimme, gimme’, that we almost never ask a question.
Even when we do ask a question, especially one which says ,‘What do I do . . .?’, we very rarely stay still long enough to listen to the answer.
Many times, even if we do receive and answer, we fail to act on it.
Our busyness is the enemy’s greatest weapon against the Body of Christ today. The lies and deceit are for the unbelievers.
The busyness is for the believers, so that they will no longer have the time to do what The LORD is asking them to do.
How many times have any of us asked in sincerity, “LORD, what do You want me to do?” — and then stayed quiet or simply shut up long enough to hear an answer?
How many times have any of us asked, sincerely, “LORD, How may I serve You, or my neighbour, Church, or friends?”
We have to learn to pray and live in unity.
We must learn to be still in the presence of The LORD, and listen to what He is asking of us. Then, and only then, can the cloud bearing our Lord approach our shores and bring the revival we all say we want so desperately.
I am desperate for Revival. You are desperate for Revival. Isn’t it about time we worked together to facilitate it?
Isn’t it about time we put aside our agendas and submitted ourselves to God’s Agenda. If we don’t do these things, then I fear we will either miss out altogether, or at very least we will miss most of what The LORD has for us.
Amen –– come Lord Jesus. Bring the storm cloud of Your presence to our land. Remove far from us our own agenda.
Anoint us for the work you have for us — the work for Your Agenda. The Anointing of Revival.
Like a tsunami wave, Revival is coming.

Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them!
