The Lost Axe Head in the Church
Axe – Word: Gospel; preaching; exhorting others; rebuke; repentance, (Matthew 3:10; Proverbs 27:17; Ecclesiastes 10:10).
As I was meditating upon the LORD, God begin to say to me that the axe head has been lost in many of His churches.
As I begin to meditate upon this portion of scriptures.
The Floating Ax Head
“And the Sons of the Prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell.”
So he answered, “Go.”
Then one said, “Please consent to go with your servants.”
And he answered, “I will go.” So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.”
So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it,” 2 Kings 6:1-7.
The very first thing I notice about the Sons of the Prophets is that they had a vision to build and a desire to work to help to up build the Kingdom of God.
Not only did they have a desire to work, but a desire to be taught by the man of God.
They even had a zeal to start right away, but they did not have spiritual maturity. It was being developed as they worked along with the Prophet Elisha.
Many times, God calls us into doing Kingdom work as He begin to perfect us as apostles and prophets to work alongside others, in order for us to reach full maturity.
He doesn’t do it because we are stupid, but because He knows our growth and our developmental levels in the body of Christ, and as we continue to grow, He will place us under those who are mature, to help to build us in the work He has called us to, like He did the Sons of the Prophets.
As I read this and begin to meditate upon, it I said to myself, how can the Sons of the Prophets begin to build when they have nothing to cut with or to tear down that which is out of place?
Because, in the biblical times, they used the axe to shape, split and to cut trees by hand! There were no tools like we have in today’s society.
God begin to say to me that immature apostles and prophets and those in leadership have to be trained the same as the sons who worked with Elisha were.
God has given them spiritual axes, and because so much power and authority is in this axe, they must know how to use this authority with both maturity and integrity, when dealing with the trees of men’s hearts!
You see, this Axe is the most important tool that the builder had when it came to cutting down trees to build with. Just as the souls of men are in God’s kingdom.
It is so easy to misuse or to abuse our axe head, and before you know it, you have cut down something that needed to be left standing.
The Sons of the Prophets didn’t realize that this axe was their first love.
Many times the LORD has given the church the axe head to use to help to build up the Body of Christ, but if we are careless with the most valuable tool He has given us, we can end up loosing it!
However; the Sons of the Prophets proved to be humble and yet teachable. Instead of them hiding their faults, they were willing to be both transparent, responsible and accountable for the mistakes they made.
Unlike, many in today’s church who have chosen to hide their mistakes, the LORD revealed to me that the first step into growing is to admit that we are not perfect and we need others to help us in this Christian walk, in order to grow up.
That is what the Sons of the Prophets did when they ran into a problem they could not handle on their own. They sought the advice of a more skilled and seasoned prophet of God for help; Elisha.
Elisha was no novice in his walk with God and he demonstrated this by his quick thinking and his expertise in his leadership abilities.
I believe this is why the Sons of the Prophets asked him to come along on this journey, because he was a Mentor (leader) they felt they could consult with and confide in!
The LORD is saying that many are not qualified to mentor others, because they don’t have the integrity, the honor, the patience and the experience to mentor others, but Elisha proved he was indeed a man who had been proven in these leadership abilities.
He could have mocked those whom he mentored and made fun of them for not securing the ax head, but he proved he was a man of integrity.
I believe that the LORD is saying that the persons who uses this axe head, are going to be those who will walk on the cutting edge and are not afraid to use this tool He is lending unto them as a skilled craftsmen
Many times they will be called to throw this axe and hit their target, with both accuracy and precision.
In addition, they will also used this axe as a weapon of warfare to battle and to fight with the enemy during spiritual warfare.
The LORD is truly ‘upping the ante’ in this season for those whom He is training in both the Apostolic and the Prophetic Ministries.
They will no longer fear dropping the axe head, because God is going to empower them to chop, split, chip and to pierce the hearts of the enemy in this season.
No more dropping the axe head!
No more fear of what man will say and or do because you may be younger or not as experienced as those who have been in this way along time!
Elisha’s manner with this group was also instructive and he operated as a team player with those he was called by God to train as the Senior Prophet of God.
There was no ego involved (no competition) here but a man that simply loved God’s people who had been called to mentor them! No insecurities whatsoever!
Nevertheless, the LORD said to me that many leaders (and those being mentored) sometimes keep those they mentor at arm’s length, because of past hurts of those they have encountered along the way.
As a result, they themselves need deliverance. The reason is that many of them have been betrayed by people in their congregation and after this happens often enough, they no longer wish to make themselves vulnerable again.
But, if you are going to be any kind of spiritual parent, (son or daughter of God) midwives or Pastor in the Body of Christ, you will be like a sheep going before the slaughter.
Was not Christ betrayed in a similar manner when he trained, taught and instructed the disciples of old?
If we are to serve Him, will we not surely feel the sting of human failure that He himself also experienced during his own ministry?
Peter denied Him, Thomas doubted Him, Judas betrayed Him and Paul persecuted His dear Children; yet He did not give up on them!
The LORD said to me that Christians who help others will always find some of their efforts rebuffed, or even worse.
However, let us not “grow weary of well-doing”, but rather understand what is clearly requested of us in Proverbs 19:22 as Elisha did with the Sons of the Prophets.
In order for you to take on the job as a mentor, spiritual parent or in any leadership role patience must be one of your best friends. And, if you lack it ask God for it but remember patience brings about tribulations, (Romans 5:3).
Elisha could have been harsh with his sons in training, because they ‘dropped the ball’ in not securing the axe head, but instead he had a heart of a loving father on the inside of him and instead asked, “Where did it fall?’
Then the prophet showed him the place it was dropped, so he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float, (2 Kings 6:6 (NKJV)
I believe that God used this opportunity to show the loving heart of a great mentor.
It is so easy for spiritual parents and leaders to criticize those who are novices in the faith, but it is even better when they can demonstrate what great leadership skills are all about to those who are young converts among them.
The Sons felt no rejection, insecurities, hurt or fear from Elisha, but instead they felt an open door to bring their problems to him; in order to get help.
This iron here represents strength, power and authority.
For example, in Revelation 19:15 we read of how Jesus will rule with a rod of iron.
I believe that this is why the young prophets was using a borrowed tool of this magnitude provided by God, because God wanted them to know the value of their authority and power.
Without it, they could do nothing, loosing their cutting edge.
I believe that God is teaching the church in this season just how valuable the axe head is to the Body of Christ, when it comes to building His Kingdom!
And, that lessons learned will not be lessons repeated!

Apostle Geraldine Fisher has a World-Wide-Social Media Net-Work Ministry. As a Missionary, God moved her into the Office of a Prophet, revealing to her the qualities of a True prophet, humility, humiliation, loving others, interceding in prayer, as she keeps her own life clean to accurately hear from God. Since hearing the audible voice of God calling her to ministry, she’s been called to intercede and pray for others in ministry as God speaks, instructs, directs and gives prophetic words for her to give to others. God promised He would bring her to sit and to learn before great men, all of which He did!
Glory to God Almighty for the powerful message. I’m empowered
