The LORD’s Favor Brought by Messiah
Messiah Jesus overcame Satan and then began his public ministry and brought the LORD’s favor.
After Messiah Jesus was baptized in water and The Spirit, The Spirit first led him to the desert, where He was tempted by Satan.
“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about Him went out through all the surrounding country. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. And He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was His custom, He went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and He stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.
He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of The LORD’s favor.”” Luke 4:14-19 ESV.
Messiah Jesus proclaimed the year of The LORD’s Favor, The Gospel of The Kingdom, to the poor.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is The Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:3.
God, His Father, sent Messiah to proclaim liberty to the captives.
“Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, he himself also shared the same things, so that by his death he might destroy the one who has the power of death (that is, the devil) and might free those who were slaves all their lives because they were terrified by death. For it is clear that he did not come to help angels. No, he came to help Abraham’s descendants, hereby becoming like his brothers in every way, so that he could be a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God and could atone for the people’s sins. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:14-18 ISV.
Messiah brought recovery of sight to the blind — physical and spiritual.
He came to set at liberty those who are oppressed, (abused, exploited, persecuted).
Isaiah brings out both The LORD’s Favor and The Day of Vengeance of our God.
The Year of the LORD’s Favor
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of the LORD ’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion — to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.
They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” Isaiah 61:1-4 ESV emphasis added.
We have The Oil of Gladness instead of mourning, The Garment of Praise instead of a faint spirit; that we may be called Oaks of Righteousness.
