The Legacy of Nicodemus
A Warning for the Shepherds and the Church
Late last night, just as we were going to bed — it was after midnight, The LORD stopped me and had me note down the story behind this post.
He took me to the story of Nicodemus. Then He reminded me of something a pastor of ours related once upon a long time ago.
More of that later — Nicodemus first. This is about the legacy he left for us through this story.
Let’s remind ourselves just who Nicodemus was:
“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” ” John 3:1-5.
The LORD then reminded me of our old pastors story. He went to an old, well established main stream church as guest preacher.
Everything went well — he was a very well known worship leader in Pentecostal circles, and had many wonderful testimony stories.
This was at a non-Pentecostal Church, but his sermon went down really well, everyone smiling. He did the expected thing at close of Service and went to the door to shake the many hands that wanted to greet him.
He got talking to one very elderly couple, pillars of the Church for many decades. He asked them, “So, how long have you been saved?” (A good old Pentecostal question)
Fully expecting seventy or more years as the answer. Their answer shocked him — “What do you mean, ‘saved’? We’ve been part of this Church all our lives, some ninety years, and no-one has ever asked us that! Whatever do you mean — ‘saved’?”
He made a point of asking one or two more the same question — same response — “What’s ‘saved’?”
The LORD brought me back to today. He said, “Just as with Nicodemus, there are many, many in My church, who are headed for hell because they are not saved, they’ve never been born again!”
As I digested this, The LORD went on, “My Word is true — unless one is born (again) of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter The Kingdom of God.”
“But now watch! I AM about to move in every denomination, among those who have never been born again, and I will bring many thousands, even millions, to rebirth — to birth ‘of water and my spirit’!
There are many who have been faithful members of My Church for years, who have never heard The Full Gospel Message and have never been born again!”
The LORD continued, “There are so many main stream denominations that no longer preach the Gospel, who never give an Altar Call, who do not teach about My Spirit, upon whom I AM about to move in the power of My Spirit, who shall see great renewal and revival.
I hold the shepherds responsible for this, and I hold the seminaries responsible for failing the shepherds.
Woe to those who have failed My Flock, My Word is clear how I will judge The Church first — starting with the shepherds and those who taught them!
But the Harvest in the main denominations shall be great. There is still a very small amount of time for repentance — whoever will listen and heed My Warning.
Saying you did not know is not an excuse — My Word is very clear on this.
Repent now — for I AM about to move and many could still be left behind!” says The LORD God Almighty!

Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them! Founder, with wife Linda, of their ministry The Upper Room Encounter.
This word confirms what I have felt, which is that in the same way that the early apostles took the gospel firstly to the Jews, the gospel needs to be taken to those in the existing churches as a priority. This implies that the nature of these churches must change from merely paying lip service to the gospel to preaching it in all its fulness and without compromise. In other words, the priority must be the gospel, and this is foundational to any true revival.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful word. God is so compassionate and loving. He truly is the light and life of the world.
