The men of Saul’s army were afraid of Goliath, and there was no one to stand up to him. But David, filled with FAITH and a passion for God’s name which was being blasphemed by Goliath, slew Goliath with just a stone and a sling according to the scriptures!

An important point in this story is that Goliath was taunting The Sovereign LORD of the Universe. He was challenging God’s people to stand up to him and demonstrate that their God was more powerful than he was.

Until David, a man of great faith, came into the Israelite camp, there was no one who was willing to step out in faith and face the giant.

However, David’s faith was so strong in God that he was willing to believe that The LORD would go with him and enable him to defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17:36-37).

David’s faith was born out of his experience of God’s grace and His mercy as he worked as a small little shepherd boy-in his life up to that point.

I hear God saying, despise not your small beginnings, because it is there you are learning how to develop great faith in The LORD.

The LORD had delivered him out of dangerous situations in the past, proving His power and trustworthiness, and David relied on Him to deliver him from the Philistine.

COME ON SOMEBODY! People maybe seeing you as just a mustard seed, but after while you will have grown to great heights in the Kingdom of God if you remain faithful to God!

From the story of David and Goliath, we can learn that the God we serve is capable of defeating any of the giants in our lives fear, depression, financial issues, doubts of faith; if we know Him and His nature well enough to step out in faith.

When we do not know what the future holds, we have to trust Him. And, I do mean trust him when we have no trace of him working in our lives!

But we can’t trust someone we don’t know, so knowing God through His Word will build our faith in Him.

Self control is defined as the ability to manage your actions, feelings and emotions. David was a man that learned self control and patience working with sheep in the wilderness and he learned how to trust God and to wait patiently upon him to help him to defeat the giants in his life; as will you!

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible, (1 Corinthians 9:25 (KJV))

David learned in the wilderness that success comes with being temperate. Something Goliath knew nothing about because he relied upon what he saw his physical muscles and abilities!

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it, (1 Corinthians 10:13).

The five smooth stones were the grace of God, giving David the ability to escape the Giant and also giving God the glory that it was His supernatural strength that helped David to defeat the giant in his life!

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind, (2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV))

Something King Saul and the Israelites fail to understand but David’s faith demonstrated he had no fear! And, as a result he would take the giants head off in battle.

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength,” Philippians 4:13.

I hear God saying to Trust God for self control and temperance in our lives will allow us to make better decisions and experience a better reality when it comes to defeating the giants in our lives!

Self control is not all bout denying yourself pleasures, it also encompasses working towards a higher ideal and sacrificing some things in the now in order to achieve long term goals.

I believe that David made great sacrifices in working with the sheep in the pastures. He had to do tasks and jobs no one else wanted to do but it was their God proved him and processed him for such a time as this for His Kingdom.

His self control in the wilderness prepared him to:

• Increases His chances of success,
• His Self-control caused him to curtail impulsive behaviors and making poor decisions in the kingdom unlike King Saul,
• It also Improved His FOCUS on trusting His God for results.

Proverbs 25:28 states, “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”

Goliath proved he was a man without self control because he decided to take on the God of Israel and His people without any wisdom and instead trusted in his own strength which lead to his demise and embarrassment being killed with five smooth stones and a little shepherd boy attending sheep!

I believe that Compulsive behaviors causes the people of God to have a mind without mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:15–16).

With the mind of Christ, we can set our minds on things above (2 Corinthians 10:5; Colossians 3:1–3; Philippians 4:8).

More importantly, as we grow in Christ, we begin to understand God’s sovereignty and His character.

We come to trust Him more fully and can therefore give up our worries.

I believe that God is saying that:

Elevation comes with conquering the Goliath in your own life!

When you defeat the giant it will be then that doors of opportunity and the of Glory of God will be revealed in your lives like David!

And, it will be then that your enemies will stand up and take notice of your victories as king Saul did David and know that you are indeed a threat to his kingdom!

Come on somebody!

For, it is your battle with the giants in your lives that will result in victory if you cling by faith to God and His power in the time of despair.

As we see with the example with David and Goliath it is only one of many examples of the supernatural power of our LORD, and, how He cares deeply for His children and He wants only the best outcome for you.

And, many times that involves trials and battles with the giants in your lives, but these are ultimately for your good and His glory.

James tells us to consider it pure joy when we encounter trials because they test our faith and develop patience and perseverance (James 1:2-4).

When we are tested by these trials, we can, in the Power of The LORD, stand up against any giant, trusting our Savior to win the victory.

“Then David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his weapons in his tent. When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this young man?” And Abner answered, “By your life, O king, I do not know.” The king said, “Ask whose son the young man is.” When David returned from killing [Goliath] the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. Saul asked him, “Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”” 1 Samuel 17:54-58 AMP.
