The Glory of Divine Intervention
I am not afraid to admit that I have weak moments in life, and at times, I can become very anxious or distressed before I realize that I truly need to step back and trust that the Lord sees and knows every single situation and need in my life -vividly.
Last week, my husband and I had just recently gone over our finances and knew things were going to be a bit tight this month because of Christmas spending and also because we both felt strongly impressed to give a financial gift of assistance to someone who was going through a very dry and difficult time. Needless to say, it stretched us quite a bit.
On Thursday of this week, I had a scheduled medical appointment and a coffee date with a dear friend. Afterwards, she came inside our home and visited for a while and then she left.
I was feeling a bit tired and decided to take an hour long nap while (husband) Steve was doing paperwork. Somehow I just could not get warm, no matter how many comforters I kept trying to snuggle up in! I finally got up, to the sound of a constant motor running somewhere in the COLD house and discovered Steve down in our basement, trying to get our furnace to work. But to no avail. It would not light and there was a strong smell of gas.
Steve shut the furnace off as we both groaned in frustration over the thought of a repair service being needed and the cost that it would be, if it was something major. We prayed, and then I searched the Internet for a heating and cooling company near our home. Of course it was after regular business hours when we would need this repair done, and the temperature was in the low 30s°F! (~0°C).
I found one nearby that did 24/7 on-call repair and was told the repair man would be to us within an hour. Sure enough, we received a call from him letting us know he was on his way. As he walked in the door, I just knew that I was going to end up praying with this young man!
I offered him a cup of freshly brewed coffee to sip on and his eyes lit up! He had been working nonstop since 6:00 a.m. that morning.
After checking out our furnace, he explained what was broken and no longer working and what would need replacing. It took him about 45 minutes to finish the job!
HERE COMES THE DIVINE INTERVENTION PART!
While he was downstairs with Steve, I prepared to make the cup of coffee I had offered him. Tucked up by the tiles under a counter in our kitchen was an envelope with Steve’s and my name on it. I recognized the handwriting as being that of our friend who was in our home earlier that day.
I opened it up and found that there was a check for a certain amount inside. I stood there and cried a little bit, thanking the Lord that somehow He already knew the furnace would go on the blink, and that He had moved upon the heart of our friend to leave an offering.
The young man came upstairs and while writing out the bill, he started chatting with us about his life and sipping coffee. When he presented the bill to us, I was absolutely once again amazed at God’s timing!
The amount in the check that was left by our friend covered the repair that was a bit more than anything we could handle at the time. We simply had to come up with an additional five dollars!
I asked the young man if he would mind if we prayed for him and blessed him for coming and helping us on such short notice. He was so tired and was booked solid until Wednesday of the next week! He very exuberantly said, “Yes! Pray away!” And so we did!
As we prayed the Lord said things to him during that prayer that spoke very deeply to his heart and confirmed God’s great love for him and care over his life! He was pretty shook up when we were done!
He then told us that he had been going to a church here in our area for a few weeks and was getting his life together again after having his heart broken by someone he had deeply loved, and that he was seeing God provide for him in a way he had never dreamed in his life.
He was totally amazed that he ended up getting called to our house and that God had us pray for him! I then told him the story about the check being placed in our kitchen and how the Lord had provided him specifically to come and repair our furnace so that we could pray for him. The Lord was letting him know that he was watching over him!
The word of God says that, “The steps of a godly man (or woman) are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way,” Psalm 37:23
I wasn’t happy that my furnace broke down during a financially tight month, but God wanted that young man in our home and he provided the way to not only get him here but to pay for the disruption!
These types of every day occurrences happen in the lives of believers everywhere, but I wanted to specifically encourage you to never fear when you are called on by the Lord to give to others, even when it pinches your own budget or needs at the moment.
The Lord truly does see and provide in the most amazing and humbling ways for those that seek Him with all of their heart and who obey His promptings!
Who might you bless today?
