The Gifts and Calling of God
Today there are so very many people talking saying all sort of things and claiming to be hearing and speaking from The LORD.
Who do you believe, and how do you know they are hearing from God and thus speaking “for” God?
The Word of God written in 1 Corinthians 12 does explain many things about The Gifts and Calling of God.
One must understand that [God does give Gifts for The Calling to do His Work]. It is not decided by man, as to how to get the Gifts and how to receive The Calling of God.
If man does the giving and the empowering, then maybe it is okay for men to make a personal claim to have certain gifts and to have certain calling.
For instance, if it is okay and within the power of men to declare they are gifted in certain areas, such as apostle, prophet, pastor, teachers, or evangelist, then we should heed all who say they are…
But, if it is not up to man to make that decree, then it behooves us to understand Who gives the Gifts and The Callings.
The following scriptures do tell us what we need to understand about the Gifts and Callings, and how they come:
” …… The manifestation of The Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, for to one is given by The Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” 1 Corinthians 12:7-11.
It should be noted that it is The Spirit of God who gives the Gifts and Callings, and it also should be further understood that The Spirit of God gives these Gifts and Callings “severally as He wills….”
One must see that the Gifts and Callings of God are not man’s gifts, but are gifts from God, imparted to men “By The Holy Spirit”. Men cannot just claim to have a gift or calling, they must be given that Calling from God!
And, understand that these Gifts do not belong to any man, but that these Gifts are “God’s Gifts”.
You have heard men say that, “I have the gift of ____.” Where that may be true. that they have been given a certain Gift, that Gift is not theirs and the God who gifted them with the Gift [if he did gift them!] is able to take it back, as he decides to do so.
If a Holy Spirit gift is given, it follows The Holy Spirit must be present and giving it…
I believe it is clear then that we must understand that all these men and women who are talking about Gifts they have, must be taken with the questions:
Are they truly holders of a Gift from God?
Did they really receive this Gift from God?
I hope to make a farther observation about these Gifts and Callings. It does say they are all given from One Spirit….. The Spirit of God.
Because of this fact, the Gifts will agree with the Gift of Prophecy of The Word of God. The Word of God declares that the things written in The Word were given by Inspiration of The Holy Spirit as God moved upon holy men of God to write….
If then the other Gifts mentioned above are truly given by The Holy Spirit, then will these gifts not be in agreement with The Word of God by the same Holy Spirit?
It then is clear that we can determine the True Gifting from the false gifting by studying the scripture gifting.
It would not be consistent with God, for The Word of God to say one thing and then the Gifts being spoken by men say another thing!
It is the same Holy Spirit who wrote The Word and who gives Gifts. They should then agree.
See 2 Peter 1:19-21,
“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by The Holy Ghost.”
The test then, to those who claim to be talking in The Spirit of God and declaring certain Gifts, is the written Word of God. If a person does contrary to the written Word of God, then that proves that the things being said and done are false?
Be careful of men who are talking. It is not always of God, until proven to be so.
Today many false prophets and teachers have gone out in the “Name of The LORD”, but they speak as mere men, and do not agree with The Scriptures revealed to us in The Holy Bible.
Here is an example:
I heard a man speaking who declared God told him to say thus: “There is soon to be a rapture and after the rapture then there will be the tribulation.”
He went on to explain “The church must be taken out before the tribulation, because it is not appointed for God’s people to suffer in the tribulation”.
Is this a true statement?
If it is true and can be proven with The Word of God, then yes it would be… But, if not proven in Scripture, then it is clear this person is not speaking from The LORD.
I know this may cause trouble with men today, who have taken the position that it does not matter what you believe, and there is much misunderstanding of the Scriptures, but that all things will eventually work it way out…..
But when one believes The Word, then the proof is in The Word of God, and declares a false teaching.
My Conclusion:
Before you take what anyone says about things spiritual as fact, it behooves you to check it out with scripture.
Now let me give you a practical verse that teaches the above principle which was given in scripture by the apostle Paul to the Church in Corinth.
“Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted, and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” 1 Corinthians 14:29-33.
If all who speak [claiming to be prophets] must be judged by those listening, then it is evident that all may not be prophets speaking the right things.
It goes on to say that God is not the author of confusion. God will not claim kin to anyone who brings confusion.
The Church is full of confusion today, and we ask, “Why LORD?”
I say, it is because many false prophets and teachers are teaching things that are not true gifts from God.
Today’s Church is in a terrible mess, because they have departed from the written Words of God.

Hello P Ken
Just wondering about your statement about the Spirit of God giving gifts and you mentioned that God can take the gift back (Yes God can do anything He wants to because He does as He pleases as the Word says) but doesn’t it say in Romans 11:29 that the gifts and callings are irrevocable (irreversible) and it refers to Numbers 23::19-20 also. If you could comment on those scriptures I would appreciate it. Thank you so much.
