The Fear Of The LORD
A psalm to praise and sing to God, out loud.
The Fear Of The LORD
Listen, my son to your father’s instruction
And do not forsake your mother’s teaching
They are a garland to grace your head
And a chain to adorn your neck
Listen, my son when wisdom comes
Do not hate or mock her advances;
Or the knowledge she brings
Do not follow sinful men
Do not follow their perverse ways
Do not harm the innocent
Do not rush onto evil paths
Do not be wise in your own eyes
Fear The LORD and shun evil!
Wisdom will only call out for so long
She will only stretch out her hand for so long
Repent at her rebukes
And replace hatred and mockery
With the Fear of The LORD
And all will be well
You will be at ease without fear of harm
Listen my son, if you accept My Words
And store up My Commands within you,
Turning your ear to wisdom
And applying your heart to understanding—
Indeed, if you call out for insight
And cry aloud for understanding
And if you look for it as for silver
And search for it as for hidden treasure,
Then you will understand the Fear of The LORD
And find the knowledge of God
Then you will understand what is right and just
And fair—-every good path!
Seek His Wisdom, my son, and all will be well!
Wisdom will only call out for so long
She will only stretch out her hand for so long
Repent at her rebukes
And replace hatred and mockery
With the Fear of The LORD
And all will be well
You will be at ease without fear of harm
For wisdom will enter your heart
And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul
Discretion will protect you
And understanding will guard you
Seek His Will, my son
Obey His Commands, my son
Follow His Heart, my son
And you will understand and walk
In the Ways of The LORD!
Wisdom will only call out for so long
She will only stretch out her hand for so long
Repent at her rebukes
And replace hatred and mockery
With the Fear of The LORD
And all will be well
You will be at ease without fear of harm
He holds success in store for the upright
He is a Shield to those whose walk is blameless
Oh LORD, how abundant the good things
That You have stored up for those who fear You!
That You bestow in the sight of all,
Of those who take refuge in You
For the Fear of The LORD
Is the beginning of wisdom!
Oh I say it again, my son
The Fear of The LORD
Is the beginning of wisdom!
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding — indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair — every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” Proverbs 2:1-11
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:7-10
“Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” Proverbs 9:6
“How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.” Psalm 31:19
“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!” Psalm 111:10
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17
