The Days of Judgment
The sixth month (Elul) is considered to be a time of preparation, and a time of repentance.
For twenty-nine days, the shofar is blown as a reminder that it is a time of reflection, introspection, and repentance before the “Days of Judgment.”
From the beginning of the sixth month until Yom Kippur (day of atonement), is forty days.
Forty is a significant number in the bible as it represents testing (refinement), change, and (taking back) dominion.
It is also during the month of Elul that the story of “the King in the field” is played out.
Normally, the King is inaccessible unless one goes through the appropriate channels to reach him. This generally meant gaining the approval of a long line of bureaucrats before gaining access to the throne room.
There are, however, times when the would king leave his palace and go out into the field. During this time, anyone can approach him, and all the usual decorum and bureaucratic requirements are suspended.
But it is also during this time, that one shouldn’t be seen sitting idle, instead of working, as the King would take note of this.
Once the last blowing of the shofar is completed on Yom Teruah (now called Rosh Hashanah), the King returns to His throne and once again becomes the judge of His Kingdom.
Yeshua is our King. And our King is currently in the field. Therefore this is a time that when you seek Him, you will find Him.
This is a season when repentance is easy because His Mercies are renewed every morning, and His Grace is sufficiently given.
But it is also during this time that the Shofar sounds daily, as a reminder that the King will soon return to His throne to render judgement upon the earth.
We are nearing that day: the day of the last sounding of the Shofar [trumpet]. The signs of the end of the age is all around us. So we must do the work of Him that sent us, while it is day: for the night soon approaches, when no one can work.
Be sober, be vigilant, and look up!
“When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek,” Psalm 27:8.
Happy High Holy Days
