The Commands of Jesus
Before we study the commands of Jesus we need to examine whether any of the Mosaic Law still applies.
Jesus said:
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled,” Matthew 5:17-18.
So we need to examine what has been fulfilled of the Mosaic Law.
The Sacrificial Law was fulfilled by Jesus at Calvary.
The Ceremonial Law was fulfilled, as it is not longer need for the temple as we are now the Temple of God.
“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19.
The punishments under the law were modified because of the Grace released by the death of Christ at Calvary.
This is shown by Jesus in John 8, in relationship to the woman guilty of adultery when Jesus did not have her stoned, but saved her and said:
“When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, ‘Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?’
She said, ‘No man, Lord.’ And Jesus said unto her, ‘Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more,’“ John 8:10-11.
The Dietary Laws were removed by Jesus when he told Peter to eat what was previously unclean food:
“And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common,” Acts 11:7-9.
When Jesus asked someone what a summary of the Law was, the person replied:
“And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, ‘Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
He said unto him, ‘What is written in the law? How readest thou?’
And he answering said, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.’
And He said unto him, ‘Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live,’” Luke 10:25-28.
What Jesus commanded is an addition to The Law and its interpretation of what was still effective and not a replacement of The Law.
All sin is a lack of love of God’s Quality of Love and incorrect stewardship.
If you have this attitude of God’s quality of Love in you, then you will fulfill His last commands that He gave before He went to heaven.
When combined together, His last commands read as follows:
“All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in My name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; in My Name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover and, lo, I AM with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
So if Jesus is your Lord and you truly love Him, then you will be doing these things.
How callous is it to know these things, and to be able to teach these things, but not tell a person going to hell about them, so that they can be free as you are free.
Remember, everyone is require to be able to tell others of the hope Jesus has placed within them and if you cannot do that then you had better learn.
You are only required to do this when Jesus tells you to or gives you opportunity to do so and anything else is disobedience and you may waste time casting these pearls before swine who will not feed on them.
How much do you love God?
Is He your complete Lord?
Are you willing to do these things when He tells you to or gives you opportunity to do so?
Do you know how to do them? In which case you need to learn, and pastors should be teaching you how to do these things.
You alone are responsible for wanting to do these things and pastors have a responsibility to teach you thee things.
If they do not know what to teach, then why are they pastors and ignoring the last great commands of Christ or not learning to teach these commands?
Perhaps Jesus is not their Lord and they may not have salvation if they deliberately do not teach these things.
We are told:
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment….” Hebrews 9:27.
You alone will be responsible for how you are judged and no one else.
The Holy Spirit has been given to you to help you to learn what God desires you to learn:
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you,” John 16:13-15.
All God asks is that you wholeheartedly try to learn how to do these things (John 7:17). The promise of God is that if you try He will help you in this:
“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself,” John 7:17.
You will not go to hell for trying and failing. You will go there for not trying or deliberately ignoring these things.
So you have no excuse, because God will teach you what you need to know to be able to serve Him, either through The Holy Spirit or people He sends to help you.
He would be a callous God asking you to do things and not preparing you and providing for you to do His Will.
So it is up to you what you do with these things. But remember you alone are responsible whether you go to heaven or hell and it is your choice what you choose and how much effort you put behind this choice.
All correct obedience is a result from a correct love for Jesus, and a desire to be like Him and to express His Character.
So if you are not obeying Him then check these attitudes in your life in case they are missing or you are not whole hearted in your attitudes in these areas.
So when you die and The Lord asks: ”What did you do about these things I asked you to do and what did you do with the life I gave you”, you will not be ashamed before Him.
