The Church — The Bride of Christ
The Church is called the bride.
“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready,” Revelation 19:7.
“And he saith unto me, Write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God,” Revelation 19:9 .
Jerusalem is called the bride — an expression of the Love Jesus has for us.
“And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband,” Revelation 21:2.
“And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife,” Revelation 21:9.
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely,” Revelation 22:17.
The followers of Jesus are compared to a bride.
What does a bride do?
She waits excitedly and expectantly for the bridegroom (the rapture) and wedding feast that will occur.
She seeks to know Him more closely and more intimately in preparation for consummation of the marriage.
She seeks to serve and please Him and is devoted to Him and His every need.
She prepares herself for the marriage.
She declares her love for her husband and His Love for her and how He has prepared things for her marriage.
He is constantly on her mind as she seeks how to come closer to Him and serve Him to be a good wife.
His purposes are her purposes.
She rests in His Love and devotion to her.
This is a much closer relationship than just being a citizen of The Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33) and is the attitude we must have to Him who will be like our husband for eternity.
Note that until the middle ages there was no religious ceremony required for marriage. There was a celebration and at that celebration the marriage was declared.
So it will be with His Bride — the marriage feast of The Lamb is where the relationship of husband and wife will be legalised.
So How does the attitude of a bride for her future husband relate to our life as a Christian?
So do you wait excitedly and expectantly for the bridegroom (the rapture) and wedding feast that will occur?
Do you seek to know Him more closely and more intimately in preparation for consummation of the marriage?
Do you seek to serve and please Him and are devoted to Him and His every need?
Do you seek prepare yourselves for the coming marriage?
Do you seek to declare your love for Jesus and His Love for you and how He has prepared things for your marriage (eternal life with Him)?
Is He constantly on your mind as we seek how to come closer to Him and serve Him?
Are your purposes His purposes?
Do you rest in His Love and devotion for you?
So how are you preparing for your future with Jesus in eternity?
