The Beginnings of The Remnant Army
Are you one who laps from your hand, or are you among those who will be rejected and sent home in peace?
The story in Judges 7 tells how The LORD directed Gideon to chose his remnant army, just 300 men, to defeat the entire Midianite hordes.
The question is, why them alone, and not the rest?
The scriptures say this –
“And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. Then The LORD said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.” Judges 7:6-7
Why choose only the few?
Two reasons.
First so that The LORD could demonstrate His Power and Might to a fearful and doubting people.
Second, a little more complex.
Those who got down on their knees and lapped from the water actually dropped their guard and took their eyes off any possible approaching danger, but the guys who used their hand to scoop up water were able to remain alert and watchful whilst still drinking.
Today The LORD is recruiting a remnant army once again. He is looking out for those who will keep awake and aware of any possible approaching dangers but who still continue with their life.
Those who, like the many in Gideons story, take their eyes off the enemy, even for a second while they drink, will be rejected with a blessing. A kind of – “Thanks, but no thanks.”
“I am seeking those,” says The LORD, “who will stay alert at all times. Armed and ready for the battle at a moments notice.
Those, like the wise virgins, who are always expectant of the call action.
I AM seeking those who will not be caught out by a sudden attack, but who will be ready — armour on, shield and sword to hand — who will instantly answer the battle cry, and give their all for My Kingdom.
I AM seeking those also who ‘love not their lives even unto death’!”
It’s getting exciting folks, but serious too!
