The Authority of the New Man in Christ
Adam lost his place of authority over the earth, but in Christ — the New Adam, born after the image of Jesus — we have something far greater than what Adam lost.
It is crucial to understand that everything Jesus accomplished, He did not do for Himself.
As God in totality and fullness, He already possesses all authority.
However, by becoming a man, there was a need to take and assume authority on behalf of humanity.
Through His birth on earth, Jesus secured the legal right to authority, for the legitimate entry into this world is through the womb of a woman.
In His death, Jesus descended into hell — the realm of the spiritually dead — to endure eternal separation on behalf of all men.
His death broke the power of the grave, which represents the second world. In His resurrection, He deflated the power of death so that the new man, born after His likeness, would no longer be a slave to death but its master.
In His ascension, Jesus secured victory over the heavenlies and handed to us a superior authority —far greater than the authority lost by Adam, who was made from the dust.
Therefore, He declared:
“All authority in heaven, on earth, and beneath the earth has been given to Me. Go therefore in My name, in My place, and in My authority.” Matthew 28:18.
In the book of Luke, the devil tempted Jesus, offering Him the world because it had been delivered to him — by whom?
Adam, of course! It was a battle for eternal dominion — and in Christ, the New Adam secured it once and for all!
