The Pace of Jesus
I have had several Visions of following Jesus through the years, where I would be following Him as He walked through various places.
Each time was a different place, sometimes unusual place that He was walking through, and I was usually 10 to 15 feet [3-4m] behind walking along after Him.
While each place was different, one thing was always the same: the pace of Jesus. He never changed His pace.
His pace was neither fast nor slow, but steady and determined. He always knew where He is going, and even as He would do quick things along the way, He would keep moving at the same relaxed but steady pace.
The distance between us didn’t change much as I followed along. I never felt strained or hurried, but was able to follow along comfortably … until… one day I looked away from Him to see where my feet were walking.
On October 25. 2022, I saw that I was following Jesus through some very shallow fish ponds.
The water was about ankle deep, and the ponds being made of concrete, were long and narrow, and were located inside of a series of long, narrow greenhouses. (I believe this scene is symbolic of the organized church, and the fish are believers.)
We walked until we reached the end of the greenhouses and the end of that pond, and Jesus then stepped out of the greenhouse to the outdoors, and there was another pond directly after the one in the greenhouse that was separated by a curb.
He just stepped over the curb and kept walking through the ankle deep water. As I reached the end of the inside pond and about to step into the next, I looked down and saw that the water in the next pond was murky.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to walk in that gross-looking water so I hesitated. I stood there for a brief moment looking at the water, then looked up to see Jesus had gotten way ahead of me.
End of vision.
I believe this is a prophetic picture of what happens when we get distracted by the things of the world and look away from our LORD.
When we then look for Him, we are surprised to find that He isn’t where He was in relation to where we are because we looked away — and while He never leaves us nor forsakes us, we can miss out on what He is doing and where He is going.
If we take our eyes off of Him for long enough, we may feel lost for a time until we can get back to where we need to be by seeking Him and reading His Word.
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13.
Following His pace and keeping up with Him in these coming days will be crucial in our being a part of what He is doing on the earth.
We are living in a significant and historic time of change, and our Lord will be asking us to help Him.
“Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, ‘Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?’”
He may ask us to do a miracle for a multitude! Are we close enough to hear?
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23.
Jesus said this to His disciples before He was crucified, so they really didn’t fully understand this reference at the time it was told to them.
What does this mean? What does it mean to take up our cross daily?
No matter what we do or where we go, we must always begin at the foot of The Cross. This must always be our starting point in everything.
Following Him is a denial of selfish ambition, laying down of pride, the laying down of being grossed out by murky waters, and following our Perfect King to where He leads, when He leads.
We don’t want to miss out on what He has for us, our loved ones, and those around us. Someone’s life may depend on our focus on Him, obedience and willingness to lay it all down.
He laid everything down for us, even His very life, and He has populated heaven for eternity by His Obedience!
But He’s not done! Hallelujah!
Declare:
Jesus, we choose to keep our eyes fixed on You.
Just as Peter walked on water as he kept his eyes fixed on his Savior, so it is with us as we keep our gaze on our King.
We don’t want to miss a thing that you have for us to do and to receive!
Help our eyes to look straight ahead, and our eyelids look right before us – straight to You! (Proverbs 4:25)
In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!
Love,
