Stand Up For Jesus, Good Soldier!
Stand Up For Jesus, Good Soldier!
Oh, don’t you just love that hymn!
It is a Christian anthem of great bravery and fortitude, written way back in 1858 by brother George Duffield Jr.
Look at the lyrics, word by word, line by line.
Come on, let’s sing it together; our LORD Jesus Christ Himself joining us (Hebrews 2:12):
Stand up, stand up for Jesus
ye soldiers of The Cross;
lift high His royal banner,
it must not suffer loss:
from vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army He shall lead,
’til ev’ry foe is vanquished,
and Christ is LORD indeed.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict
in this His glorious day:
ye that are men now serve Him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger,
and strength to strength oppose.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in His strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own:
put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with pray’r;
where duty calls, or danger,
be never wanting there.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
this day the noise of battle,
the next the victor’s song:
to him that overcometh
a crown of life shall be;
he with the King of glory
shall reign eternally.
Hallelu-YAH! Glory to God! We fight for victory, from victory!
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place,” 2 Corinthians 2:14.
Oh yes, “…thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our LORD Jesus Christ,” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Brethren, the wrap up battle rages on unabated. And WE are the ones The Captain of our salvation, The Captain of the hosts, Jesus Christ, has put on fighting duty at this very time — a time which has been long expected and awaited through the ages by Peter, Paul and other spirits of just men made perfect.
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our LORD Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate [Sovereign], The KING of kings and LORD of Lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen,” 1 Timothy 6:12-16.
There is nothing to fear. Fear no one.
“Only let your conduct be worthy… stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries…” Philippians 1:27-28.
Why?
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you IS GREATER than he who is in the world,” 1 John 4:4.
Remember? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31).
As I wrote in a previous HKP Word, the only people who have absolute, true power and authority on earth are WE the children of God, WE who are in Christ Jesus, (Luke 9:1; 10:1; Ephesians 1:19; Matthew 16:18, 19; Job 22:28).
“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 2:3.
The Holy Spirit ministered something to me a few months ago over some weeks: By the POWER of Christ, the Christian who believes, OBEYS and prays as a good soldier of Jesus Christ IS MIGHTIER than the military forces of the world combined; he IS MIGHTIER than the devil and his angels! He has “power and authority over all demons”, YES, “over all the power of the enemy”! (Luke 9:1; 10:19).
This is not an exaggeration. This is not a hyperbole. It is the truth, “…if you are willing to receive it,” (Matthew 11:14).
This is because of “the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20).
It is The Power of God, it is The Power of Christ – “His divine power“! (2 Peter 1:3). The eternal power (is is endless, unlimited). The power of Satan is short time power (it is limited and has an end), (see Revelation 12:12).
God is The Power, and has the power. We have Christ The Power of God, (Matthew 26:64; 1 Corinthians 1:24).
Therefore, no power, natural or supernatural, can stand against us. No power, human or demonic, can overcome us.
The mightiest military power is no match for The Power of God, The Power of Christ. He is Almighty.
The best military marshaled against us is less than a gathering of toddlers to us.
It happened with Elisha under the Old Covenant of the blood of animals. How much more for us under The New Covenant? How much more shall The Blood of Christ? (Hebrews 9: 13, 14).
In 2 Kings 6, the king of Syria “sent horses and chariots and a great army“ against one man, Elisha. But he subdued them all as though they were puppies.
Does not The Word say we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us? (Romans 8:37).
Elisha’s servant was acting with anxiety. But, assuredly, the man of God said to him, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.”
“Then The LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha,” 2 Kings 6:16-17.
Brothers and sisters, Elisha did not have our LORD Jesus Christ in Him; Elisha was not in Christ Jesus; Elisha was not bought with The PRECIOUS Blood of Christ; Elisha did not have The Blood of Jesus Christ protecting and preserving him.
Yet he was given all that divine military support to be with him. How much more for us who are in Christ Jesus, bought with The PRECIOUS Blood of Christ?
“But you have come to Mount Zion… to an innumerable company of angels,… to God the Judge of all… to Jesus the Mediator of The New Covenant, and to The Blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12:22-24.
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so The LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever,” Psalms 125:2.
Therefore, my brother, my sister, get up and fight! Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of The Cross!
The background story of that song is a great testimony.
The Wikipedia account makes interesting reading. It is very moving.
“In 1858, Presbyterian minister George Duffield Jr. was an associate of Dudley Atkins Tyng who had recently been removed from his local Episcopalian community for speaking against slavery. Duffield assisted Tyng in supporting a revival of evangelicalism in Pennsylvania.
In March 1858, Tyng gave a sermon at a YMCA meeting of over 5,000 men on Exodus 10:11, “Go now ye that are men, and serve The LORD”, converting over 1,000 men listening in the crowd.
The following month, Tyng was maimed in a farming accident. Before he died a few days after the accident he told his father “Tell my brethren of the ministry, wherever you meet them, to stand up for Jesus.”
Duffield then wrote the hymn based on those words, and also incorporated the phrase “Ye that are men now serve Him” from Tyng’s memorable sermon the month before he died.
At a memorial service for Tyng, Duffield gave a sermon based on Ephesians 6:14, “Stand firm, wearing the whole armour of God”, and ended it by reciting the new hymn he had written as a tribute.”
In spiritual warfare, there is a very important point to always bear in mind. It is that God has been dealing with the devil and his evil lot for billions of years.
But at this time, He has chosen you and me, washed us and covers us in The Blood of Jesus Christ His Son, “to the intent that NOW the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by The Church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,” (Ephesians 3:10).
So, do not lose hope. Stand up and fight! The LORD ordained and appointed us for such a time as this.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them,” Ephesians 2:10.
Furthermore,
“…that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called…” Romans 9:23-24.
Fight, and don’t give up. That marital situation, that health problem, that financial difficulty; whatever your problem is, your focus should not be on flesh and blood.
Don’t focus on your spouse, don’t focus on your doctor, don’t focus on your bank account. Focus on God, looking unto Jesus Christ alone.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand,” Ephesians 6:12-13.
Seek and rely only on “the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified The LORD of glory,” 1 Corinthians 2:7-8.
Ask The LORD for His Holy Spirit to give you utterance in prayer as He gave the disciples on The Day of Pentecost.
Place your matter in the hands of Jesus Christ; yes, put your matter in His hands with the print of the nails!
Do you not catch the revelation?
Those nail-scarred hands of Jesus have finished the foe, have conquered for us on The Cross and in His resurrection.
Those hands will raise up any dead situation.
Those hands will restore what is lost.
Those hands will help you and provide for you.
Those hands will uphold you even in the most violent storms of life.
The hands of Jesus Christ, His hands with the print of the nails, will handle anything, any situation for you!
The LORD brought me into fellowship with a young man earlier this year. He later came with his wife, who, they subsequently informed me, was pregnant. It was her first.
This young lady thence kept calling me and asking that I pray for her regarding the delivery.
I took her matter seriously and asked The LORD for The Holy Spirit to give me utterance in prayer for her.
I prayed again and again: “LORD, bring her pregnancy to the time of birth and cause the delivery (Isaiah 66:7 – 9).
You Yourself attend to the delivery with Your hands with the print of the nails (John 20:24-29). Let her be like the Hebrew women: before the midwives could attend to her she has already given birth (Exodus 1:19). And that, it will be quick, easy and perfect delivery by The Blood of Jesus!
LORD, let her delivery be exactly like that of Mary when she gave birth to The Baby Jesus [and laid Him] in a manger. It was very easy and supernatural. There were no doctors and midwives with her; just animals looking on.
On and on, I kept praying as The Holy Spirit gave me utterance.
Earlier this month she gave birth joyfully.
I was eager to hear the testimony for the Glory of God. So, how was the delivery? “It was easy. I felt no pain” she replied, bubbling with Jesus-confidence.
She is twenty-two (22) years-old! But with Jesus Christ attending to her with His hands with the print of the nails, the delivery, as she said, was easy and without pain.
“How long were you in labour? ” I asked, seeking more testimony. “About thirty minutes,” she informed me with certainty.
Brethren, nothing put in the hands of Jesus Christ can go wrong. Whatever is placed in His hands in prayer WILL turn out well beyond expectations.
And, as The Holy Spirit prophesied to me through a sister about two days ago, “What will be good can NEVER go bad.” In other words, by the hand of The LORD, what will turn out well can never go wrong.
I prophesy to you by The Word of The LORD: your situation will turn out well, it can never go wrong. Do not be afraid; only believe, and things will turn out well. (Luke 8:50).
Pray, decree and declare as led by The Holy Spirit. The LORD will SURELY come through for you. I am a living testimony for this truth. Hallelu-YAH!
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13.
Look up and see WHO is behind us (Isaiah 40:26). At night, find a place with the least, or no light pollution. The Creator of all those heavenly bodies is our Father.
The Creator of all things is our GREAT God and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is able. And He is faithful. He is ever faithful, never failing.
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.”
“…For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
So we may boldly say:
“The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 10:35; 13:5,6).
Therefore… let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the Originator and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured The Cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of The Throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Finally, my brethren, be strong in The LORD and in THE POWER of His might. (Ephesians 6:10).
We are at the midnight hour, the most critical time since the beginning of the world (Matthew 24:21; Mark 13:19).
Stand up and fight as a good soldier of The LORD Jesus Christ, fervently praying and singing to God always, with thanksgiving.
And He will come through for you mightily as He did for Paul and Silas (Acts 16:25-26).
“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.
“Farewell” Acts 15:29.
~ Jacob Awagah
Jacob, an apostle of Jesus Christ by The Will of God, according to The Promise of Life which is in Christ Jesus, (2 Timothy 1:1). As John was, Jacob is the disciple whom JESUS loves, (John 13:23;19:26; 20:2; 21:7,20). And like Paul, Jacob is “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 3:1) for His Purpose forever: to obey Him always.
“And having been perfected, He became The Author of Eternal Salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9.
Woohoo, wooooow, you are just speaking to me my brother. Thank you so much for the powerful anointed words. I receive them in the mighty name of Iesous. May God continue to bless you.
