Spiritual Infants Sat in the Pews
Believers who like Church their way are continually in need of milk, not solid food — spiritual infants, who sit in pews.
In America, we have seen the Church deteriorate spiritually to the point where speaking the truth in love is seldom practiced.
The Church is predominately made of hearers, with a few doers mixed in. (James 1:22)
Messiah Jesus, the High Priest of our faith, leads us will and to do what God calls us to do.
In Hebrews, God’s Word sets that truth before us. It shows Messiah Jesus is preeminent over the angels. (Hebrews 1:6) and worthy of more glory than Moses (Hebrews 3:3)
He is faithful as the Son over God’s House, including us. (Hebrews 3:1-6) We come to the throne of of his grace. (Hebrews 4:14-16.)
He is a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:14-17) He is the guarantee of a better covenant. (Hebrews 7:22; 8:1-13; 9:1-28). He lives to intercede for us. (Hebrews 7:23-25)
Our spiritual senses need a tune up.
Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to listen. For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.” Hebrews 5:11-14.
But when the Messiah came as a high priest of the good things that have come, he went through the greater and more perfect tent that was not made by human hands and that is not a part of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he went into the Most Holy Place once for all and secured our eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are unclean purifies them physically, how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead actions so that we may serve the living God!” Hebrews 9:11-14 (Hebrews 9:19;10:1-39;12:2-3)
God has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
We see the light with our spiritual senses. As followers of Messiah Jesus, we should so live in the very midst of heathen darkness that our life is a testimony of The Gospel of The Kingdom to them, our godliness: meekness under the severest provocations, cheerful readiness to be of service, and observance of God’s Holy Will, make an impression, in spite of all opposition.
By our conduct, some of those who considered our faith a huge fraud have been led to reconsider and be receptive to the Grace of God when He visits them. Their heart is changed to accept the Gospel, repent and believe.
“But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A CONSECRATED NATION, A [special] PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were NOT A PEOPLE [at all], but now you are GOD’S PEOPLE; once you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers [in this world] to abstain from the sensual urges [those dishonorable desires] that wage war against the soul. Keep your behavior excellent among the [unsaved] Gentiles [conduct yourself honorably, with graciousness and integrity], so that for whatever reason they may slander you as evildoers, yet by observing your good deeds they may [instead come to] glorify God in the day of visitation [when He looks upon them with mercy].” 1 Peter 2:9-12 emphasis added.
