Spiritual Abuse in the Church
There has been something heavy on my heart this morning by the Holy Spirit that i have to share; it is so grieving.
Being raised Baptist most of my life and coming into the charismatic/Pentecostal churches in 1999, I was so glad to meet the Holy Spirit and be set free of such bondage! Because of my now relationship with the Holy Spirit, Ii am so grateful for going to a church that was Pentecostal/charismatic. Being in this atmosphere for nearly 15 years, one thing I have seen that is so grieving, is the misuse and abuse of interacting and walking with other Christians, as it relates to the need for Deliverance.
I thank God I was rooted very deep in the love of Christ Jesus. I was firmly planted so that when this type of misuse presented itself, I knew that those operating against me in another spirit were the ones in error, because of the warnings I received from God, and also my walk with God.
But what I have come to see is this that type of behavior is common and expected in this atmosphere, which if not dealt with, can be a huge stumbling block and cause many to backslide and worse, lose their salvation!
I have witnessed it, and pray for those who have been the victims of such occurrences. What I see is people so flippantly and recklessly saying that others have devils or spirits, that they do not have.
It has come to the point where it is truly not safe going into this atmosphere in a ministry that has not the love of God, that has not matured them, because they can do more damage to the Kingdom of God with the harvest, than good!
That is why God is holding the harvest back; He is waiting on us to mature in the love of Christ Jesus!
What I have seen used so recklessly and without any regard, is other Christians in front of other people, talk about someone having a certain devil or evil spirit by which the entire ministry needs to be protected.
What I have experienced personally, by the truth of the Holy Spirit showing it, is that instead, those people had the very spirit they accused me of having! What is so sad is that I have been grounded in such love of Christ Jesus, that I am unaffected by this, but I see others who are not!
Instead, it is spiritual abuse and makes people think something is wrong with them, when it is not!
I have people who email me and message me without any regard of the Holy Spirit, saying that I have either Jezebel, a controlling spirit, or another evil spirit. Of course God has already alerted me about the person before they even contact me, weeks before and I tell my husband, Rich. Within a short time, I then get the email or message and either rebuke them in love or do not respond.
In saying all of this, I think about all the souls who have stumbled and fallen away because of the immaturity in such a ministry, at misusing their authority to carry out this reckless activity, that is not questioned and instead is condoned.
It has come to the point where I truly am concerned about telling anyone to go into an atmosphere (ministry) like this, because of this type of recklessness.
When i minister and know that others are oppressed by a spirit, I instead I seek God to see the Holy City within the person and don’t see a devil. God causes me to see through His eyes, keeping me rooted in the love of Christ, so i don’t cause others to stumble.
Ministers of the gospel, please be careful in operating in such reckless disregard of the Holy spirit and calling everything a devil when it is not. Use discernment, by knowing the word of God fully and walking in love, which fulfills the law and is the righteousness of Christ Jesus and stop using immaturity to cause you in pride, to throw spiritual weight you don’t have around, and spread rumors and talk about others like they have devils and you have to protect your ministry.
It is not your ministry to begin with, its God’s ministry. Ask God to mature you in love so you are not guilty of causing any of His sheep to stumble and pray to see the Holy City within them!
“And whoever receives and accepts and welcomes one little child like this for My sake and in My name receives and accepts and welcomes Me.
But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and [a]acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin [that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought], it would be better (more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea.
Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influences to do wrong! It is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the person on whose account or by whom the temptation comes!” Matthew 18:5-7 AMP.
A saint crying out to God for fullness of deliverance and the manifestation of salvation.
