Shekinah!
Just sitting here waiting on The LORD. Listening, still, iPad, pen and paper handy to write down whatever He gives me to ponder on.
Nothing specific is coming — but there is something stirring. I have been reading this morning about The Shekinah Glory of The LORD.
The word Shekinah referred originally to the cloud of His presence which settled on the Tent of Meeting when God met with Moses in the wilderness.
So Shekinah Glory originally meant the ‘settling Glory’, or presence. Nowadays we might say “The Glory of God’s Presence that settled,” when The LORD met with Moses.
It occurs to me that, although we see signs of, and partial glimpses of Glory cloud, we could do with more Shekinah in our meetings today.
We have probably labelled it ‘Revival’ these days, because Revival is on folks minds, and Revival is top of their current bucket list.
I often wondered how any Church could still advertise that they are planning to have ‘Revival in our meetings next weekend’.
I have always bucked against saying that. It’s almost like ordering a take-away meal isn’t it, expecting God to send Revival when we want it, and not longer, and where we want it, and nowhere else.
I long for the day, soon coming, when God’s Glory ‘settles’ in each of our meetings, and in our daily lives.
Oh, we get glimpses of it in worship, now and then, and perhaps we have another glimpse of it during ministry when His Presence manifests in healing and deliverance.
All very well — very nice and orderly — but what about the Shekinah aspect, the settling of His Glory and presence on our Church, our town, our country?
Last time this happened any time in The United Kingdom we called it the Hebridean Revival of 1949 — before that the Fisherman’s Revival in 1921, and before that the Welsh Revival of 1904.
Why doesn’t it happen today?
We know it is very close but, there’s always that little word ‘but’, something is missing.
We are certainly praying for it. Many people long and yearn for it — even groaning in The Spirit in their Prayer Meetings.
Are not enough of us doing this? Or is it something else?
Are we perhaps praying with the wrong motives or agenda?
“Send it here LORD,” rather than just “Send it anywhere You like LORD!”?
Are our hearts still not right before God? Are we seeking a touch of The Glory for ourselves?
Are we saying in our hearts, “Make me the next Evan Roberts, or Frank Bartleman, or William Seymour” at the same time eying the fame that goes with it?
I don’t pretend to know the answer, but I do know we need the fast and soon coming mighty Move of the Spirit of God in our world right now.
God’s Heart is breaking for what He sees happening — even though He knows it’s going to happen — because He is looking for the next true revivalist who really does care nothing for The Glory, but just wants to see God alone glorified.
Keep praying! Keep yearning and striving before the Throne! God will answer in His own good time!
All we can do is to keep pressing in for the Shekinah, or settling, of The Presence of God. Then maybe we shall see what true revival is all about.

Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them! Founder, with wife Linda, of their ministry The Upper Room Encounter.
I have the same thoughts and musings over „Revival“ as you described, Chris!!
