Set Your Heart On Things Above
A psalm to praise and sing to God, out loud.
Set Your Heart On Things Above
Oh dear one, set your heart on things above
Go against the currents in this world —
No matter how strong they are
Keep rowing;
Keep your eyes on the prize:
The Author and Finisher of your faith!
Don’t get caught in the waterfalls
Don’t let your faith become shipwrecked
Taking you off course,
Causing you to become ensnared,
Keeping you from your calling
Instead keep rowing;
Keep your eyes on the prize:
The One who lives inside you—
He who has conquered the world
And made you an overcomer
Oh dear one, set your heart on things above
On a selfless love rooted in compassion
As perfect as can be, casting out all fear
For if we live, we live to The LORD,
And if we die, we die to The LORD.
So then, whether we live or whether we die,
We are The LORD’s.
And I heard a voice from Heaven saying,
“Write this: Blessed are the dead
who die in The LORD from now on.”
“Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit,
“that they may rest from their labors,
“for their deeds follow them!”
And they who are alive in Him will declare,
“I have fought the Good Fight,
I have finished the race, I have kept the faith!”
Oh dear one, set your heart on things above
Do good and be rich in good works,
To be generous and ready to share,
Thus storing up treasure—
A good foundation that will follow you
So that you may take hold
Of that which is truly life!
So dear one, set your heart on things above
Go against the currents in this world
No matter how strong they are
Keep rowing; keep your eyes on the prize:
The Author and Finisher of your faith….
As it is written:
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—
For Jesus has prepared a mansion for you in Heaven
All because you made Him your treasure here on earth
Oh dear one, set your heart on things above!
Set your heart on all that is good and praiseworthy!
Go against the currents in this world—
No matter how strong they are
Keep rowing; keep your eyes on the prize:
The Author and Finisher of your faith!
