Self Effort Won’t Work!
We have no hope of receiving life through self effort. We cannot perfectly adhere to the law code.
There is no bell curve in the righteous Judge’s ruling. How we compare with our neighbors, our co-workers or the person in the next pew of our church is inconsequential.
We have a mounting list of offenses but it takes only one infraction for us to earn the verdict, “GUILTY.” So we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that all are guilty and deserve the punishment associated with this verdict.
So if we place our hopes in being good enough through self effort we are on a collision course with overwhelming sorrow and grief.
However, there is good news. Our hopes are not tied into self. We all fall short so God had to make another way. Because of His deep love for us He went to great lengths to accomplish this.
He sent His Son, His one and only Son to pay the punishment for our crimes! Who would do such a thing? Who would go to such lengths to redeem those who stand in contradiction to all that is good and right?
Who would send their only child to be the scorn of man, to be disrespected, mocked, beaten, abused and then executed in the cruelest of ways? Surely none of us would do this. Yet this is what the One True God, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, has done for us!
So as you are tempted to say, “If you knew me you’d understand why I can never be reconciled to God,” remember this, you are no better or worse off than any other.
We are all sinners. Remember, there is no bell curve. We can attempt to generate right behavior, but we cannot overcome the error of our ways. We cannot be justified through self.
So the choice we make boils down to only two outcomes; life or death. The only outcome we have earned is death. So if we insist on receiving what we have earned we must be prepared for a day that is coming.
It is a day filled with unspeakable woes and sorrows. However, should we choose to accept that which we have clearly not earned, our hope lies before us. We have an inheritance of joy beyond our wildest dreams!
Christ Jesus was the sacrifice for one and all. So the only choice that remains is to either to receive or not to receive.
Which do you choose? This is the most urgent of matters and cannot be put off until tomorrow. I urge you to settle it in your heart today!
