Seek promotion, God’s way!
“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted,” Matthew 23:11-12 (KJV).
These verses stood out to me this morning because they are the opposite of what most people see as success. I believe this verse tells us why it doesn’t work. Traits that come with “exalting yourself” are pride and arrogance.
Proverbs 8:13 says this is the evil way. Pride comes before a fall. Doesn’t sound like trying to put yourself on top is the way to get to the top with God. These verses say that the one who exalts himself shall be abased, brought low, or degraded. God first not self first…that’s the right order of things.
Instead, we are to hate evil by fearing the Lord. We are to be servants first, then we will be the greatest in God’s eyes. Don’t let your right hand know what your left hand is doing…….
Yes humility, or being humble is what God wants from us because He wants to shine. God says those who humble themselves shall be lifted up by Him. To be humble is to be small, meek, with an unassuming character. Humility is the absence of pride and assertiveness.
Let’s look for promotion God’s way. Who are we trying to impress anyway?
Be careful you don’t fall off the edge because all you can see is yourself…..
