Scarred
We should NEVER let Scars [past hurts] stop us from reaching out…. they should only give us strength, because He brought us through them, and so He will help the one hurting.
Because we KNOW HIM AND HIS HAND we can be one too that touches a hurting one.
I knew a Preacher years ago named Jackie Boy Wood. He was a Pastor in a Church down in the inner city of Houston, Texas.
He started the Church in an old house by knocking out the walls and making room for chairs.
Jackie Boy was a Street Preacher deluxe. I spent some time with Jackie Boy [stayed at his house in between meetings] and one night he said to me, “Brother Ken, I want to show you something.”
He loosed the buttons on his shirt and took it off, then turning around so I could see his back.
His back was solid scars. Old knife wounds, bullet holes, and everything you can imagine scarred him.
He turned on around and the scars continued on his chest!
Then what I saw horrified me: I saw the hundreds if not thousands of needle marks in his arms.
He said to me: “Brother Ken, there is nothing I haven’t done, no nothing. You see those needle marks? Well I was on the hard stuff for years.”
Jackie Boy then told me his testimony. He said, “I was so wicked I did not want to live any longer, so I decided to kill myself.
I got a gun and went down on the water front of Houston and under a peer, I took out the gun and put it to my head.
But I couldn’t pull the trigger, I was too scared to do it! So I thought I will swim out a long distance and drown myself, but I could not do that either.
I sat on the beach sand that night thinking, I CAN’T EVEN KILL MYSELF!”
Fumbling then around in his pocket for a cigarette, he felt a paper. Taking it out he saw that it was a Gospel
Track and it said on the front:
“You have tried everything else, so now why not try Jesus?” |
He couldn’t remember where he got it, but somewhere walking down a street, some street preacher put it in his hand.
That night Jackie Boy gave his heart to Jesus Christ….. and he was gloriously saved.
He told me there was only one thing he then wanted to do……. he wanted to go tell his father.
His father became a Born Again too! Then Jackie Boy went to all those he knew were hurting and helped them find Jesus.
He said, “It was easy Ken, because I know exactly what was wrong with them and exactly what they needed…. They needed jesus,” [his nail scarred hands].
Jackie Boy was a rough talking Street Preacher. Some of his language was very much street language. But he had loving hands and heart.
Jackie Boy had a heart for the hurting. His church was all those who were scarred too.
I will never forget Jackie Boy Woods. He is dead now and with the LORD, but because he did not let the hurt of his life stop him, he became known as The Cowboy Street Preacher of Houston, Texas.
He wore a big cowboy hat, and was just a common guy, but the love in that man’s heart for the hurting ,would turn you around.
“Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog,” Psalm 22:11-20.
A True Story.
