The LORD use nature as His military, to get the people’s attention!

Locust, according to Webster’s dictionary, are a large and mainly tropical grasshopper with strong powers of flight. They are usually solitary, but from time to time there is a population explosion, and it migrates in vast swarms that cause extensive damage to crops.

In the Bible, The LORD used locusts (symbolizes nature and His creation) to inflicted a plague, among other pests, on the Egyptians who purportedly held the Hebrews captive in Moses’s day.

He did it and allowed it, because of both pride and rebellion, and because Pharaoh thought he was god, just as any rebellious nation, who tried to take on and challenge God in His beliefs and causing His people to go into bondage!

I believe unless the nation(s) repent, we shall see both hands and the finger of God like never seen before!

Famine, disease, hurricanes, earthquakes and many, many more false teachers and preachers shall be exposed, coming harder and harder against the Church!

Not only that, religion as the Church knows it, shall become a fable, because the love and the hearts of men shall become wickeder and wickeder, because they have rejected God and all that is considered holy!

Spiritual and natural perversion shall not only be in the world, but the whore Church shall encourage many to follow false doctrines and other beliefs, because many will fail to seek God and as a result they shall deny the faith causing the Church to endure great suffering and persecution as God begins to expose sin!

Many times God has to take the foolish things to confound the wise in their own craftiness! Because man has become his own god in his own eyes!

In Joel, this swarm of insects were in the form of the locust, to come and to devour the land and to set judgment against it, until the people would begin to recognize that it was God they where in need of instead of man and his limited resources although it is true enough that the locusts move in a straight trajectory, turning aside neither to the right or the left, and even scaling walls and houses in their procedure.

It has never been alleged by anyone that the locusts were definitely arrayed in “ranks” and “echelons.”

The prophecy throughout this section reveals that God is all powerful and that man cannot out think Him, out rank Him no matter how many limited resources he might have in the end it will be God that will rule! (Joel 2:4-11)

These locusts were absolutely terrible and their was no hiding place for man to hide, because the power of God ordained it!

Just as He did when He prepared a fish to capture Jonah in the belly of the whale! No matter how Jonah cried, The LORD refused to allow him to escape until He saw true authentic repentance!

Not only were these locust powerful, but intelligent as well!

When a wall or a house lay in their way, they climb straight up, going over the roof. And, when they came to water, whether a puddle, river, lake, or the open sea, they never attempt to go around it, but unhesitatingly leap in and are drowned; and their dead bodies floating on the surface make a bridge (over lesser bodies of water) for their companions to pass over.

Thus the scourge often ends, causing a stench which sometimes produces a fearful plague.

John Gills Exposition sates,

“They shall run like mighty men,…. like men of war, in a hostile way, as soldiers run upon their enemy with undaunted courage and bravery. Bochart from Pisidas describes the locusts’ manner of fighting, who says, they strike not standing, but running: they shall climb the wall like men of war; scale the walls of cities as besiegers do; walls and bulwarks cannot keep them out; all places are accessible to them, WALLED CITIES, TOWNS, YEA, EVEN HOUSES, Exodus 10:6; and they shall march everyone on his ways; in his proper path, following one another, and keeping just distance: and they shall not break their ranks; or “pervert their ways”, as the word signifies.”

Their ranks — Identities them as skilled in ordering and the steadiness in keeping under, exactly like trained soldiers, foretells the terror and strength of both the armies signified by these locusts, and of the locusts themselves.

“The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened and the stars withdraw their shining,” Revelation 9:2-4; 16:14.

“And The LORD utters His voice before His army, for His host is very great, and [they are] strong and powerful who execute [God’s] word. For the day of The LORD is great and very terrible, and who can endure it?” Isaiah 26:20,21;34:1-4, 8; Revelation 6:16,17.

“Therefore also now, says The LORD, turn and keep on coming to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning [until every hindrance is removed and the broken fellowship is restored].
Rend your hearts and not your garments and return to The LORD, your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in loving-kindness; and He revokes His sentence of evil [when His conditions are met].
Who knows but what He will turn, revoke your sentence [of evil], and leave a blessing behind Him [giving you the means with which to serve Him], even a cereal or meal offering and a drink offering for The LORD, your God?
Blow the trumpet in Zion; set apart a fast [a day of restraint and humility]; call a solemn assembly.
Gather the people, sanctify the congregation; assemble the elderly people, gather the children and the nursing infants; let the bridegroom [who is legally exempt from attending] go forth from his chamber and the bride out of her closet. [None is exempt from the humiliation.]
Let the priests, the ministers of The LORD, weep between the porch and the altar; and let them say, Have pity and spare Your people, O Lord, and give not Your heritage to reproach, that the [heathen] nations should rule over them or use a byword against them. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?” Joel 2:12-17, Amplified Version)
